THE DAY THE LEPRECHAUNS CAME

The past few years there has been an explosion of Irish history everywhere we look. I have to say I've been caught up in the dramatics just as much as everyone. I too, can claim Irish ancestory. I have it in my blood. My maiden name is straight out of Irish history. This is what I am passing onto my children: their ancestory, their lineage, their forefathers. I want them to know it all and hold it dear to their hearts as I do.

St. Patrick's day is alive at our house. The leprechauns found us. Some of my best friends are leprechauns, or so I told my daughter when she found the bag of gold foiled covered chocolate at the end of the rainbow (well, the end of her rainbow was a clean room that mysteriously happend while she was at school). She is looking forward to St. Patrick's day again this year.

Dinner time is fun with the green jello and green kool-aide. Green bread is easy to make (I make my own bread and put green food coloring in it). For dessert we have green cake (easy, cake mix with green food coloring) topped with green frosting. For added decor, add green sprinkles.

Teach your kids the joys of history and of finding out just who they are and where they come from, whatever their heritage may be. They'll love it and it's great family time.

Yes, lads and lassies, we're all a wee bit Irish for at least one day. I keep it close to my heart and give thanks for my great great grandfather who immigrated during the great famine in 1845. I'm proud to be Irish and so are my children. Darby O'Gill and the wee folks were seen in my backyard just yesterday and I'm waiting/hoping for that trip of a lifetime to actually kiss the Blarney Stone. BUT, until that day, I'll keep praying for my leprechauns to stay around and visit for awhile.
