Known as Jessica Fletcher, murder sleuth of Cabot Cove Maine in the TV series Murder She Wrote, this woman has far more of a distinguished past and future than meets the eye.

She has a long running presence in major classic films and has achieved Broadway fame.

Angela Bridgid Lansbury was born in London, England, October 16, 1925. Her parents were Edgar Lansbury and Moyna MacGill who were married in 1924. At the age of nine her father, Edgar, died leaving four children: Edger Jr. and Bruce (twins), Isolde (step-daughter) and Angela.

It was during World War II that Angela came to America and without a doubt had found her calling. A classic beauty with talent that was recognizable from the on-set. Her first film appearance was in the thriller Gaslight (1944) co-staring with Ingrid Bergman as a supportive role. This first movie was the launch of her career and landed her an Oscar nomination with her first role. Later she was cast to play the snooty older sister to Elisabeth Taylor in the now classic, National Velvet (1944).

The following year (1945), Angela married her first husband, Richard Cromwell, but sadly they were divorced within 11 months. She attributed her impetuous youth as the possible failure for she was only 20. This unhappy marriage did not affect her ability to act.

The following year she stared in another hit, the classic Oscar Wilde novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray (1946), with Donna Reed and Peter Lawford in which she received her second Oscar nomination.

That same year Angela stared with the infamously famous actress/singer Judy Garland, in the movie The Harvey Girls (musical/western, 1946). Angela played the role of a rowdy dance hall girl whose toughness gives a great screen character for the musical film.

By 1948 Lansbury was staring with the big named stars at the time when she appeared in the movie drama The State of the Union, directed by Frank Capra with legendaries Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn. In this film she played the role of an aging heiress very well despite her youth.

From there she moved to playing the role of the Queen Anne in the swashbuckling rendition of The Three Musketeers (1948) co-staring with Lana Turner, Gene Kelly and the beautiful June Allyson.

Angela met and fell in love with her future and long-term husband, Peter Shaw (Peter Pullen, actor/producer). That same year she co-stared with Hedy Lamarr and Victor Mature in the historic tale of Samson and Delilah.
