Scrapbook Ideas for Layouts

Writing and Scrapbooking are very similar. Both ask the same questions, "Where do I get my ideas from?"

Nature is a very good resource for ideas. Collect pictures from magazines, photos, or walk through a park, beach, or nursery for color ideas and even layout ideas. Take a digital camera with you; you never know when you'll see a beautiful flower, butterfly or bird that has awesome colors that you can pull ideas from.

Scrapping, scenic and many other magazines are full of ideas, layout galleries online are also excellent resources. Check out the digital layouts as well for paper scrapping. Lots of inspiration is there.

Pick out one or two pictures you want to scrap and look at the colors, or lack of. What do you see? A theme or color families? Go from there with choosing your papers, elements and journaling.

For journaling you can use quotes that fit your theme. Best of all use your own thought journaling. If you don't like your handwriting you can find a font on the Internet or one that is already installed and use your computer to journal, print out and attach to your layout (LO).

Use rubberstamps as inspiration. Life is inspiration and full of endless ideas for LO's. What it takes is a shift in how you observe the world around you. Pay attention to the colors of a sunrise or sunset, the many colors in a rose and so on.

Start out with the basics and don't overwhelm yourself with all the stuff available. As a writer the same goes. When you are doing your journaling you're writing. Write from different points of view. For example I write from the POV of my daughter whining cuz mom takes too many pictures or I will write from my POV about a special LO. I'm working on a digital LO for my hubby's homecoming from Kuwait and another for a dear friend we lost last week. No pictures available so I'm taking all the tributes and printing them out and will decorate the pages with things Bea loved in life; Amish, writing, kids and helping people. Don't forget your heart. Write from your heart about a picture that grabs you. You'd be surprised what you may end up with.

Keep an idea file. Include magazine clips, idea color combinations, ideas that hit you when you least expect it. Organize the ideas in folders. Folders allow for easy organization and you can just drop an idea into the correct folder or grab an idea when you think you have none left to tap into.
