Then, I have a numbered master list of sources, noting where they are filed. This helps me keep track of where documents are filed, and allows me to use abbreviated, numbered notes on the group sheets.

My working form is the pedigree chart that I make for each individual. For me, it a good spatial reminder of where that person is on my family tree (especially, for the many cousins I get confused). This shows me, at a quick glance, what information I need to still get.

Here is where you can get my favorite family group sheets, pedigree charts, and research logs to take with you when doing research at libraries:

Ancestry Corner Reference Library-FREE Forms

Ancestors Charts and Records - family group sheets, researchlog, and pedigree chart

Heritage Quest Pedigree Chart

Heritage Quest Family Group Sheet

note: Some of the family group sheets are two pages for large families. If you don't need the second page, be sure to set your print for just page one.

Here's where you can get the Adobe Acrobat Free Reader you will need for downloading most of these charts.

HOT TIP: Check out a fellow Suite 101 editor for place to find a free download of a software program called Generations, which builds a family tree. I love freeware
