The U.S. and Canadian stock exchanges share many holidays, with a few extra closed days for holidays in each country. Hours of operation and late trading availability also vary, although most stock exchanges in North America operate in Eastern Standard Time. Stock Exchange Hours of Operation
- AMEX Stock Market- 9:30am to 4:00pm EST, Monday to Friday.
- NASDAQ Stock Market- 9:30am to 4:00pm EST, with after-hours trading from 4:00pm to 6:30pm, Monday to Friday.
- New York Stock Exchange- 9:30am to 4:00pm EST, Monday to Friday.
- Toronto Stock Exchange- 9:30am to 4:00pm EST, with Extended Session for Participating Organizations from 4:00 to 5:15pm EST, Monday to Friday.
- TSX Venture Exchange- 9:30am to 4:00pm EST, Monday to Friday.

All major Canadian stock markets are closed on the following holidays in 2009:

NYSE, AMEX and NASDAQ Early Closing Days
On Friday, November 27, 2009, NASDAQ and the NYSE cease trading at 1:00pm EST. They also stop trading early on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2009, at 1:00pm EST.
On the above-mentioned dates, AMEX will end trading for products normally traded until 4:00pm and 4:15pm EST at 1:00pm and 1:15pm, respectively.

Traders seeking information on the AMEX exchange can now find it on the NYSE website (effective January 16, 2009), as the amex.com website was phased out after NYSE Euronext acquired the American Stock Exchange.
Nasdaq.com carries all of the information needed to trade on that market, while sites such as Yahoo Finance offer stock market information, commentary, tips and helpful tools useful to traders in all major markets.
