The ninth annual Phoenix Comicon is not just for comic book fans. Fans of comics, anime, fantasy, science fiction and other forms of pop culture are invited to attend the 3-day event at the Phoenix Convention Center and other venues.
Phoenix Comicon Dates, Locations and Times
The Phoenix Comicon begins Thursday, May 27 and runs through Sunday, May 30. Events during the Comicon will be held at the Phoenix Convention Center and at the Phoenix Hyatt Regency.
Thursday night is a special preview night, open only to attendees who have purchased a full event membership. Registration begins at 4:00 p.m., and events run from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Registration for the Comicon starts at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Events on Friday run from 12:00 p.m.to 2:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m to 2:00 a.m on Saturday and 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday.
Special Guests
Comic book creators, actors from television and film, science fiction and fantasy authors, anime creators and gamers are among the special guests who will be at the Phoenix Comicon. Fans will have the chance to meet Marvel comic great Stan Lee, creator of Spider-Man and Iron Man; "Star Trek" actors Wil Wheaton, Jonathan Frakes and LeVar Burton; Emma Caulfield and James Marsters of "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer", author Diana Gabaldon and Frank Beddor; and Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, among others.
Autograph Sessions, Special Events and Concerts
The Labyrinth Masquerade Ball, featuring music and a costume contest will be held Friday night. Tickets for the Ball are $10. James Marsters will be in concert Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency; tickets for the concert are $25. Two autograph sessions with Stan Lee will occur on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Advanced registration at $50 per autograph is required. Admission for these special events is in addition to the membership fees for the Phoenix Comicon. There will also be photo opportunities and signing sessions with Todd McFarlane and other exhibitors available.
Membership Fees
A full membership provides admission to all days of the Phoenix Comicon, including the Thursday night preview. The full membership is $30 in advance or $35 at the door.
Single day admissions are also available.
Friday - $20 in advance, $25 at the door
Saturday - $25 in advance, $30 at the door
Sunday - $15
Children 12 and under are free if accompanied by a paying adult.
Weapons Restrictions
The Phoenix Comicon will enforce strict policies regarding weapons.All weaponry must be deemed safe by Phoenix Comicon security before it is allowed on the convention floor.
Fake, prop and homemade weapons will be allowed as long as they are not dangerous. Swords, knives and other metal weapons are not allowed unless properly sheathed and deemed acceptable by Comicon security staff.
Guns, nunchucks, concealed weapons, incendiary devices and any weapon that is illegal are strictly forbidden from the Phoenix Comicon.
Phoenix Comicon Blood Drive
The American Red Cross will host a blood drive during the Phoenix Comicon from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. All blood donors will receive a goodie bag from Jesse James Comics and have a chance to win tickets to the 2011 Phoenix Comicon.
