The James Bond film franchise is scheduled to start filming its 23rd Bond film, announced film producers EON Productions and MGM film studios on January 12, 2011. In April 2010 work on the 23rd film production was suspended due to uncertainty over the company's future. Furthermore, when MGM announced bankruptcy in December 2010 it was unknown how long it would be before Bond 23 saw the light again. Producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said that filming is set to begin in late 2011 with Sam Mendes as the director and Neal Purvis as the screenwriter. The film title is unknown at this time.
Daniel Craig in Bond 23
Daniel Craig is set to play the 007 British spy in his third Bond movie. Craig has already appeared in the 21st Bond film Casino Royale and the 22nd film Quantum of Solace. He is the sixth actor to play 007 on the screen after Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan. In May 2005, Daniel Craig announced Bond film producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli assured him that he would get the role of 007, but Craig later stated that when the producers approached him he declined until a script was available for him to read.
James Bond Novels, Among the Most Read in the World
To date over 100 million James Bond books have been sold and over half the world's population has seen a Bond film. Ian Fleming, the creator of the British Secret Series 007 spy produced Bond's adventures in twelve novels and nine short stories. The world first learned about the 007 secret spy in 1953 when Fleming published his first novel Casino Royale. Success followed thereafter for Fleming who retired to his exotic Jamaican estate "Goldeneye" where he took martini and scuba diving breaks for every one thousand words he wrote in the production of his novels.
James Bond Film Franchise
The longest running film franchise James Bond is also one of the most lucrative. The film series has been running continually from 1962 to 2010 with a six-year hiatus between 1989 and 1995. With an average of one film every two years, the films have grossed over US$ 12 billion. In 1961 Albert R. Broccoli purchased film rights to all the Bond novels (except Casino Royale) and along with business partner Harry Saltzman co-produced the EON films until 1975, then Broccoli and his partner split and he became the sole producer. Broccoli's daughter Barbara and stepson Michael Wilson have been co-producing the films since Broccoli's death in 1995. Bond 23's come back is proof that Bond films are anything but defunct, you might say that the film producers would really die another day.
