Automotive electronics engineers will be heading for Gaydon in Warwickshire, England, on Tuesday 27 September 2011 for the Advanced Automotive Electronics Show. This one-day exhibition and conference will comprise a series of seminars aimed at imparting the latest technology for all aspects of automotive electronics. There will also be a tabletop exhibition showing some of the top electronics products that target the automotive industry.
Unlike many exhibitions, where sales pitches are the order of the day, this is very much a by engineers, for engineers forum, with the goal being to give those attending knowledge that they can use productively back at their workplaces.
Connected Car Theme
The main theme of the conference programme will be the idea of the connected car. On that theme, one of the highlights will be a case study following a live demonstration of car-to-x (C2X) communications on a public road in the Netherlands earlier this year. C2X uses a wireless standard designed specifically for automotive applications. This lets cars communicate with each other (car-to-car) as well as with intelligent traffic infrastructure (car-to-infrastructure) around them. The platform actually sees around corners to recognise traffic blocks or risks before they are visible to the human eye.
Representatives from top car companies Jaguar Land Rover and Ford will be making presentations on in-vehicle infotainment and the Autosar standard, respectively. Other automotive standards such as Can and Most will also be covered. And there will be a panel debate on the future of intelligent transport systems.
Also, as cars become more complex, it becomes increasingly difficult to keep the driver informed while not distracting him or her from the crucial task of driving safely. As such, a presentation will look at the way the car interfaces with the driver and how that has evolved over the years.
Information and Venue
The show will be held at the Heritage Motor Centre & Museum on Banbury Road, Gaydon, Warwickshire. Delegates will be free to look round the many exhibits at the museum. The conference programme will start at 8.30am with registration and coffee with the seminar stream itself starting at 9.30am.
After the keynote address, in which Nick Ford from market-watcher Frost & Sullivan will give an overview of the current market trends, the event will split into two streams so there will be a choice of programme. The final paper is scheduled to end at 5pm after which there will be a drinks reception.
