As one of the most sought-after ski mountains in all of Europe, Mt. Titlis is the largest ski destination in central Switzerland, offering year-round fun.

The Urner Alps, which are known as the leading mountain resort in Switzerland, plays home to the vast Mt. Titlis that shadows the quaint village of Engelberg below. This particular part of the mountain can be measured at 3,239 meters (10,627 ft) at its highest peak, which is also the highest peak in the Swiss Alps.

Mt. Titlis Ski Resort

Mt. Titlis ski resort provides skiing terrain mostly for advanced skiers, although there are some easier places to ski, it is still not considered a mountain for beginners. Since 1927, when the first cable car ascended, Mt. Titlis ski area has expanded immensely and now includes 82 km of ski slopes. Its longest vertical downhill is an exhilarating 12 km, with a vertical drop of 2,000 meters.

It also presents visitors with a 3.5 km sleigh ride, five cross-country ski runs, snow tubes, many winter hiking options, snow shoe trails, snow scooters and a sun terrace where patrons can take pleasure in the most spectacular views of the northern Alps while savoring a hot meal.

Mt. Titlis Glacier Park

While Mt. Titlis does enjoy year-round activities, it also enjoys an extensively long ski season. The cable cars can be seen leaving the valley floor, lifting skiers up and down the mountain from the beginning of October until the end of May. For those who do not wish to ski, Mt. Titlis Glacier Park has many activities that can easily consume the entire day of any visitor.

The 40-minute cable car ride that is divided into two stops will bestow on everyone a magnificent view of the valley below as well as the incredible mountains that slowly become the new surroundings . However, it’s the second stop when passengers change into the Titlis Rotair, the world’s first rotating cable car, where the breathtaking 360-degree view of the Alps really come into sight.

Once passengers reach the top of Mt. Titlis they can spend the day enjoying many different activities other than skiing. Non-skiers can tour the Glacier Cave that runs deep into the mountain. Its boardwalk paths and well-lite passages allows for unlimited exploration of the many ice tunnels.

There is the Ice Flyer chair lift that takes passengers for closer views of the crevasses of the nearby glacier flows. The park also keeps visitors busy with the free use of their many snow toys such as ice balancer scooters, snow tube rides and snow bob rider. When hunger strikes, there are two restaurants that offer hot meals and a gift shop to pick up a souvenir or two before heading back down into the town of Engelberg.
