The eighth season of So You Think You Can Dance kicks off with the first auditions in Oakland, CA, on Wednesday, October 13, and more dates being announced.

The popular telelvision competition, So You Think You Can Dance, will begin auditioning for its eighth season on Wednesday, October 13, in Oakland, CA. Additional audition dates (including November 15 in New York) will be announced in the coming weeks.

Auditioners will include talented dancers skilled in styles such as Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, Jazz, Breaking, Krumping, Salsa, Swing, and many more. The prize is a spot on the television show, which usually includes the Top 20 dancers from all the audition cities combined. The top dancers will then compete for the title of America's Favorite Dancer, joining the ranks of last season's winner Lauren Froderman, season 6's Russell Ferguson, and season 5's Jeanine Mason.

First Two Audition Cities Announced for SYTYCD Season 8

The first two sites for auditioners have been announced on the So You Think You Can Dance website:

  • Wednesday, October 13: Paramount Theatre of the Arts, 2025 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94612
  • Monday, November 15: Howard Gilman Opera House at BAM, 30 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11217

Additional cities and dates will be announced in the coming weeks. All updates will be posted on the SYTYCD website.

Important Information for SYTYCD Auditions

At each audition site, registration begins at 8 a.m. Of course, it is a good idea to get in line before then. If travelling to an audition location, dancers should plan to stay for at least two days following the initial audition date, in case they are called back for additional work.

Auditioners must be either legal US citizens, legal permanent residents of the US, or possess a current legal Employment Authorization Card enabling them to seek employment freely in the US. Dancers must be between 18 and 30 years old on the day they register to audition, and must provide legal proof of age on the audition date.

When choosing music, dancers should be sure to choose songs that are commercially available. This helps the producers to obtain rights to use the songs in the television broadcast of the auditions. Songs should not be illegally downloaded from the internet, and auditioners should not use a remix of a song or a mix of several songs in their auditions.
