The unstoppable teams of Dalhausser/Rogers and Kessey/Ross won the 2010 Hermosa Beach tournament in the AVP Pro Volleyball final matches for men and women.

Beach volleyball competition heated up as top professional volleyball players competed July 16-18, 2010 at the AVP Nivea Tour Hermosa Beach Open Presented by Bud Light Lime.

The AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tournament stop in Hermosa Beach is considered to be one of the most popular tournament locations for both players and spectators. The event was held at the north side of Hermosa Beach Pier in Hermosa Beach, CA. The Hermosa Beach location is popular because it is home to many of the pro beach volleyball players and is a hot spot for professional beach volleyball.

Dalhausser/Rogers Win Fifth Consecutive Hermosa Beach Tournament Title

The top-seeded team of Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers became the first professional beach volleyball team to win the Hermosa Beach event five years in a row.

Dalhausser and Rogers won the AVP Hermosa Beach Open title by beating the 13th-seeded team of John Mayer and Matt Prosser (21-14, 21-11). Dalhausser and Rogers were nearly unstoppable throughout the entire Hermosa Beach event, losing only one game in five matches. On their fifth straight win in Hermosa Beach, Rogers noted, “It’s pretty cool considering only one other team has won five in a row.”

Dalhausser and Rogers continued to steal momentum from Mayer and Prosser throughout the final match, with Dalhausser blocking Mayer 11 times throughout the match. Dalhausser had the highest number of blocks in the tournament with 44 blocks in 13 games at the Hermosa Beach Open.

The results of the semi-finals brackets leading up to the final match were:

  • Dalhausser and Todd Rogers defeated Casey Jennings and Brad Keenan (19-21, 21-19, 16-14)
  • John Mayer and Matt Prosser defeated Jeff Nygaard and Matt Olsen (17-21, 21-18, 15-10)

Kessey/Ross Win Fourth Title in a Row on 2010 AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour

Jennifer Kessey and April Ross prove to be on a roll as they won their fourth consecutive win in the 2010 AVP Tournament season.

Losing only one game in five matches at the AVP Hermosa Beach Open, the top-seeded Kessey and Ross beat the third-seeded Elaine Youngs and Rachel Scott (21-17, 21-14) to capture their fourth AVP win in the 2010 season.

Anxious to continue the winning streak, Kessey said, “We’re going to keep playing as well as we can to win Manhattan and all the other ones.”

Previous 2010 AVP Tournament wins for Kessey/Ross included events held in Huntington Beach, CA (June 3-6), Virginia Beach, VA (June 18-20) and Belmar NJ (June 25-27).

The results of the semi-finals brackets leading up to the final match were:

  • Jennifer Kessey and April Ross defeated Ashley Ivy and Lisa Rutledge (21-14, 21-13)
  • Elaine Youngs and Rachel Scott defeated Anglea Lewis and Priscella Lima (21-14, 23-21)

Upcoming 2010 AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tournaments

Pro beach volleyball players have little time for rest as they gear up to compete in the next stop on the 2010 AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour in Malibu, CA July 24-25 at Zuma Beach. The Malibu tournament will be followed by two more tournaments (San Francisco and Manhattan Beach) before the tour championship in Chicago August 27-29. Two additional AVP Pro Beach Tour stops will be in Cincinnati for the Tournament of Champions and then Los Angeles for the post-season specialty tournament.

Does anyone know if the September 17 tournament in Hermosa Beach still take place?

Thanks,
