Brittany's passing
Brittany Murphy passed away December 20, 2009 after collapsing in her home. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a "medical request" that evening. Murphy had apparently collapsed in a bathroom.
Fire fighters attempted to resuscitate Murphy on the scene but was ultimately transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She was pronounced dead on arrival at 10:04 p.m. after going into cardiac arrest.
Her cause of death was deemed natural. It was thought by the Los Angeles coroner that her primary cause of death was pneumonia with secondary factors of iron-deficiency anemia and multiple drug intoxication.
It was thought Murphy took the medication to treat a cold or respiratory infection. All drugs were legal and death was ruled to be an accident.
At his wife's funeral, Monjack talked about the couple's relationship and called her his best friend and soul mate. The two were married in 2007 and said they were planning a family and contemplating moving to New York.
