Andy Nyman stars as vice chancellor Jonty de Wolfe in Channel Four’s new six-part comedy drama Campus, due to start on Tuesday 5 April 2011. Set at the fictitious Kirke University, de Wolfe (played by Andy Nyman) is determined to boost the establishment’s standing despite its 1960s crumbling concrete image.
The university is in financial trouble and he is determined to try anything from faked alumni and kidnapped prodigies to a range of Kirke branded perfume.
Meanwhile, the rest of the staff have more pressing concerns. For example, English professor Matt Beer (played by Joseph Millson) is determined to find his way into the bed of maths lecturer Imogen Moffat (played by Lisa Jackson) and is disgruntled that his younger sidekick Flatpack (played by Jonathan Bailey) seems to be having more luck.
The Actors in Campus
Andy Nyman is better known for his work in films such as Shut Up and Shoot Me, for which he won the best actor award at the Cherbourg Film Festival in 2006. However, his television work has included playing Rob Hallett in Peak Practice and Patrick in Dead Set.
Joseph Millson was more of a regular in Peak Practice, playing Doctor Sam Morgan for eighteen episodes. Other television credits include Woody in Talk to Me and Alan Jackson in The Sarah Jane Adventures.
Lisa Jackson recently played Janice Pearce in Dirk Gently and three years ago was Elaine Wilson in Waking the Dead.
Jonathan Bailey was Josh in 2001’s Baddiel’s Syndrome, and went on from there to play Danny in Off the Hook. He will also appear later this year as Leonardo in Young Leonardo.
Campus also stars Sarah Pascoe as feisty accommodations officer Nicole Huggins, Will Adamsdale as accountant Jason Armitage, Dolly Wells as mechanical engineer Lydia Tennant and Katehrine Ryan as Canadian troubleshooter Georgina Bryan.
The Team Behind Campus
Campus was produced and directed by Victoria Pile with associate producer Robert Harley and executive producer Caroline Leddy. The production company is Moniker Pictures, recently set up by Victoria Pile and Robert Harley and based in Brick Lane in London.
Pile devised and produced the double Emmy award-winning sketch show Smack the Pony for Channel Four, as well as Los Dos Bros (winner of the Silver Rose at Montreux). She then devised, produced and co-wrote the Bafta-winning comedy Green Wing. More recently she has spent some time in the USA, writing and producing a sitcom pilot for ABC/Paramount and developing another with NBC. Back in the UK, as well as directing a number of commercial, she is developing a comedy drama for Channel Four, a screenplay and sitcom scripts for the BBC.
