State specific information about how to claim the Cash for Clunker Appliances rebate in each state. All states are different. Some require recycling; others do not.

Cash for Clunker Appliances will launch in Spring 2010. The program was established to encourage people to retire their old appliances and purchase new appliances. The new appliances must conserve energy resources. To be eligible for the rebate the new appliance must meet Energy Star criteria. Each state is in charge of implementing its own program and setting eligibility requirements for their residents.

California Appliance Rebates

A mail-in rebate program will be implemented by California residents purchase Energy Star appliances and ultra-efficient appliances. California will begin their program in April 2010 to correspond with Earth Day activities.

California will provide Cash for Clunker rebates for the following appliances:

  • Refrigerators
  • Clothes washers
  • Room air conditioners

The California resident is required to provide proof of recycling in order to receive rebates. Additionally, the new appliance must be purchased from a California retailer.

California has received a total stimulus funding of $35,267,000.

Colorado Appliance Rebates

Colorado will also use a mail-in rebate system to administer the cash for clunker program. Colorado will begin the program in March 2010 and will continue it until all funds are exhausted.

Colorado will provide Cash for Clunker rebates for the following appliances:

  • Refrigerators
  • Clothes washers
  • Dishwashers
  • Gas storage water heaters
  • Gas tankless water heaters
  • Gas furnaces
  • Gas boilers

Colorado encourages their residents to recycle their clunker appliances and will provide guidance on proper disposal.

Colorado has received a total stimulus funding of $4,739,000.

Connecticut Appliance Rebates

Connecticut has a mail-in rebate program established to help their residents switch to Energy Star appliances. They will begin the program in January 2010 and continue until April 2010. If there are funds left after this time, the state may issue a second round of rebates at a later date. The new appliance must be purchased and installed first and then the consumer applies for the rebate. The consumer has 30 days from the date of purchase to claim the rebate.

Connecticut will provide Cash for Clunker rebates for the following appliances:

  • Refrigerators
  • Freezers
  • Clothes washers
  • Room air conditioners
  • Central air conditioners

Connecticut does not require proof of recycling but encourages its residents to do so.

Connecticut has received a total stimulus funding of $3,359,000.

Delaware Appliance Rebates

Delaware will implemented a mail-in rebate program in December 2009. Like other states, the program is designed to encourage residents to drop their clunker appliances and replace them with new appliances.

Delaware will provide Cash for Clunker rebates for the following appliances:

  • Refrigerators
  • Freezers
  • Clothes Washers
  • Dishwashers
  • Room air conditioners
  • Gas condensing water heaters
  • Gas storage water heaters
  • Gas tankless water heaters

Delaware does not require residents to show proof of recycling of the old appliances but they are encouraged to do so.

Delaware has received a total stimulus funding of $838,000.
