Involve your children in some simple Christmas crafts that will not only be fun, but educational as well.

Looking for some simple activities for your Children this Christmas season? There are a lot of things that your children can help you do that will occupy them and teach them more about Christmas at the same time.

Making your own Christmas Ornaments

Use square pieces of white paper to cut out paper Snowflakes. Add glitter for a little color, and talk about how snowflakes a formed. A great book to read about snowflakes is The Snowflake: A Water Cycle Storyby Neil Waldman.

Make little felt Christmas trees by buying green felt, and tiny colorful craft cotton balls. After cutting out a tree shape, use dabs of glue to add the cotton balls to decorate and talk about why we decorate a Christmas tree. A great book about the Christmas tree is The Legend of the Christmas Tree Board Book by Rick Osborne.

Making Christmas Cards

Using construction paper or plain white paper, make your own Christmas cards. Have a selection of stickers, or cut out little pictures from magazines to decorate the card. If your children are in school, provide several written examples of common Christmas sayings to add to their cards, and talk to them about why we celebrate Christmas. A good book to read about Christmas is God Gave Us Christmas by Lisa T. Bergren.

Have your children decorate the front of Christmas cards with the words of popular Christmas carols. Search for lyrics online if you do not know them from memory, and talk about the story behind each carol. A great book to read that discusses the history of several popular Christmas carols is Christmas Carols for a Kid’s Heart by Joni Eareckson Tada and Bobbie Wolgemuth.

Making Christmas Presents

Have your children think of different gifts that they can make this Christmas season. One idea is to make a picture frame with their picture made from cardboard decorated with Christmas wrapping paper. Discuss why we give gifts at Christmas, and have your children think of some creative gifts to make. A good book about giving gifts is Shall I knit You a Hat? A Christmas Yarn by Kate Klise.

With a little bit of creativity, a few crafting supplies and a couple of good books, you can have your children learning about Christmas and having fun at the same time. These ideas will also provide cheap Christmas gifts, cards and decorations that will help you stay in your budget while encouraging your children to become more involved.
