The art of the party is setting the mood. The decorations, the drinks, the platter and the occasion sets the ambience of your gathering. If you’d like your guests to feel fun and care-free, select a theme that incorporates lots of fun activities. If you’d like your guest to feel romantic or luxurious, select a romantic or luxurious theme. Here are just a few themes to think about for your next gathering.
A Kentucky Derby Party
Gather your guests for the pre-race show, then while you and your guests watch the show, enjoy pitchers of Mint Juleps. To make it more authentic, serve the drinks in silver tumblers, and offer your guests some Derby Pie.
If you like, each guest can pick a horse and place an informal bet to win a small prize-a bottle of Kentucky bourbon.
A Mexican Fiesta
Turn on some mariachi music and serve up some margaritas. Mexican beer (such as Tecate or Corona) with lime, and tequila shots (Cuervo Gold) with lime and salt.
Food suggestions are nachos, salsa and do-it-yourself tacos.
A Salsa Party
Serve up some pitchers of sangria (red or white) and your guests will be doing the Salsa all evening. Keep a dance instruction book or video on hand so everyone can try their skill at this sexy dance.
Along with the sangria, serve a variety of Spanish finger foods know as tapas. These can range from simple olives to paella (made with rice chicken and seafood). You could make a Spanish frittata, or any Spanish food you like.
Dorm Party Revisited
Do you and your friends miss your college days? Well why not host a grown up dorm party? All you need is beer, spiked punch made with fruit juice, vodka, gin, and rum.
Snacks should include cheese curls, nuts, pretzels, potato chips and onion dip made from soup mix. For music you could break out your old music of whatever you were listening to and dancing to during that time. This kind of bash calls for a crowd to the dance floor, to get ready to party til the sun comes up.
A Sports Party
Whether you follow sports or not, you can have a blast watching the most spectacular sporting event of the year. Get out your team banners or your college shirts and invite over your favorite couch potatoes for a lazy afternoon of fun.
Beer is a must at any sports gathering, but other drinks will add to the fun. Hearty foods like chili, cheese dogs and pizza quench the pallet.
A Night in the Tropics
You can throw a tropical theme party any time of the year, but during the dead of winter it’s especially nice to host a little getaway. Tropical favorites such as Mai Tais, Zombie, and Pina Coladas are always big hits.
Bowls and platters of fresh tropical fruits should be available for your guests’ pleasure, as well as food on a tropical theme. Reggae, or calypso music, or your favorite dance music will add to the fun. You could ask your friends to dress in beach or island wear. Decorate with exotic flowers at your florist to give your party an island flair.
These are just a few examples of some of the themes you can choose from. You can choose just about any theme like Halloween, Mardi Gras, awards shows, presidential races, your favorite television series, your favorite books, foods, or drinks. Basically, whatever suits your mood.
