When a young couple takes a honeymoon cruise, only one of them comes back alive.

Deadly Honeymoon is a fictional story, however when considering the latest news headlines, one could also say it is very realistic, as many people go missing from cruise ships all the time. This story is about Lindsey (Summer Glau) and Trevor (Chris Carmack) who have planned the perfect wedding in Hawaii, far away from their home in Denver. Trevor’s well-to-do parents give them a lavish cruise from Hawaii to Tahiti for their honeymoon, which starts out as a fairy tale, but ends up as a nightmare.

Not an Idyllic Honeymoon

Immediately after they arrive on the ship, Trevor is befriended by three Hungarian men. These men are shady characters and seem like they are scheming about something. But Trevor does not see this at all. He is a partying guy and these men love to party too. The four of them form a common bond gambling in the ship’s casino, drinking, and drugs. Trevor has more fun with the three men than he does with his bride, who takes offense at all the time he is spending with them. She is left on her own and makes friends with another woman, Kim, who is traveling alone. When Trevor announces the couple will be spending the evening with the Hungarians, Lindsey invites Kim to join them.

As far as honeymoons go, this is not what Lindsey imagined. She had planned the perfect wedding and wanted to top it off with the perfect honeymoon. But the best laid plans often don’t work out.

When she is abandoned in the casino, Lindsey meets Gwen (Zoe McLellan), another woman who is traveling alone. They commiserate about men, and Lindsey starts to see a different side of Trevor. She hoped he would settle down a little once they were married, and especially not abandon her during their honeymoon, but Trevor is just a party animal and enjoys the company of the three Hungarians to the company of his bride.

Man Overboard

One morning the steward discovers a mess in Trevor and Lindsey’s cabin. There is blood on the pillow, broken glass on the floor, and no signs of the couple. As the crew immediately starts to look for the missing newlyweds, Gwen becomes involved. She is an FBI investigator on vacation, but this case piques her imagination.

Soon Lindsey is discovered alone in a hallway, but there is no sign of Trevor. As the ship’s security officer (Erik Palladino) starts investigating his disappearance, Gwen joins in. Every section of the ship is checked and there is no sign of Trevor. It is obvious he is no on the ship. But what exactly happened to him? Was he killed and thrown overboard? Did he trip and fall into the ocean? Was he pushed over the rail? And who else was involved?

The investigation turns up all kinds of questions and suspects. Suspicion falls on everyone associated with the couple.

Motive

While this is a fairly predictable movie, it is entertaining nevertheless. There are several people who could have been associated with Trevor’s disappearance, but what were their motives? That is part of the story. Motive.

While this is all playing out, Lindsey is constantly talking to her parents and Trevor’s parents via video conferencing. She is alone on a ship out in the ocean far from anyone she knows. She says she just wants her husband back, but suspicion also falls on her. Is she the loving bride she portrays?

Lindsey, Kim, the Hungarians, and just about anyone else on the ship could be responsible. The big question is whether Trevor’s death was an accident or a murder. And if it was a murder, then why was he killed?
