Doctor Who Christmas Special 2010 Preview - Warning Spoilers!!!!!

Katherine Jenkins and Michael Gambon join Matt Smith at the Eleventh Doctor enjoys his first Xmas Special.

Filming on the new Doctor Who Christmas Special only started on 12th July but already anticipation is running rife as to what we might since in the festive treat. The BBC have given us a few little nuggets of information. Here is what we know so far:

Katherine Jenkins is in Doctor Who

The delectable welsh warbler, opera diva Katherine Jenkins will star in this Doctor Who special. Whether she will feature in some sort of cameo role or be a major character we do not yet know. However it is apparent that Katherine is a big Doctor Who fans and that this is an ambition fulfilled for her. Let us hope she makes more of an impact than Kylie managed in “Voyage of the Damned”.

Michael Gambon is in Doctor Who

Mr Gambon’s acting CV makes for impressive reading. Older television viewers will know him for his infamous role in “The Singing Detective”. Younger viewers will perhaps more readily recognize him as Albus Dunbledore in the Harry Potter franchise. You might even know he has part of the Top Gear track named in his honour! His role will surely be pivotal in the episode in some form or another.

We Know Rory and Amy are on Their Honeymoon

Having just got married the next logical step in the Rory and Amy story is for them to enjoy their honeymoon and this will indeed form the premise for this tale. However when the honeymoon is over will both of them stay on onboard with the Doctor for further adventures?

We Know the Story is Loosely Based on “A Christmas Carol”

This idea of Steven Moffatt being able to put a Doctor Who spin on this Dickens’ classic is very appealing. As we all know the story features characters from Christmas past, present and future. Does that mean we will see something from the Doctor’s past, present and future? Or could this be River Song who apparently falls into all three categories!

Will we Hear Anymore About the Silence?

We have been told by Steven Moffat that the Silence will feature heavily in Series 6 and may form the overall story arc. But will that begin with the Christmas Special? And will we find out who took control of the Tardis and caused it to explode in “The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang”. And will the festive special give us any clearer indication as to who said “silence will fall”.

There will be unbelievable amounts of speculation with regards to the xmas special between now and the air date. A lot of this is down to Steven Moffat being brave enough to leave story threads open from the last season. However it is unlikely that too many of these, if any, will be resolved at xmas and it would perhaps be wiser that this is very much a stand alone, self contained episode.

That will allow the tension to mount for Series Six even more!!!
