Rihanna has done the unthinkable and passed Lady Gaga in a social media category, Facebook Fans. The flashy singer, originally from Barbados, is now the female with the most fans in that category and is 2nd overall to the leader Eminem. She passed Lady Gaga 2 days ago and as of press time on Sun. July 17 had vaulted into a slim lead of 60,000.
It's slim considering the count is 40,669,853 to 40,611,908.
Eminem has 43,367,713 Facebook Fans and after Rihanna and Lady Gaga the late-Michael Jackson is in 4th and Shakira is 5th. Facebook;'s marketing director Randi Zuckerberg issued a statement about the feat, saying "sorry, Gaga! As of today, Rihanna has passed Lady Gaga as the #1 most popular woman on Facebook." And yes, Randi's the sister of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
Twitter and Youtube: Rihanna Well Back
The social media site Famecount, which "generates statistics across Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to help you track the trends and rank the stars" shows a different artist leading in each category. Gaga leads in the category of Twitter followers with 11,665,000. Justin Bieber is 2nd while U.S. President Barack Obama is 3rd, Britney Spears 4th and Katy Perry 5th. Despite her Facebook performance, when it comes to Twitter followers Rihanna is way back in 13th with a little over 6,100,000.
The numbers for Youtube views, for a singer the number of times videos of each of their songs have been played, are astonishing. For this category it's Justin Bieber leading and at press time had 1,761,945,421 (yes, that's billion) Youtube Views. Further, on a typical day he will have 2 million or more views. Second in this category is Lady Gaga, Rihanna is 3rd, Eminem 4th and online comic Ray William Johnson is 5th.
Overall Score: Rihanna Behind Lady Gaga
Famecount tabulates an overall leader by giving weight to their numbers in all 3 major categories. Overall Lady Gaga is in front, followed by Bieber, Rihanna in 3rd, Eminem in 4th and Shakira. U.S. President Obama is 7th, Selena Gomez 10th and the first athlete, soccer player Christiano Rinaldo, sits in 11th.
These numbers are affected by what the star is doing at the time and to what degree they are in the public eye. For example, Lady Gaga's numbers went up dramatically when she released Born This Way last month. Also in June of 2011 Rihanna began her Loud Proud tour and her numbers, too, increased at a higher rate.
