Funbrain.com is an free education on-line game site for school-aged children. Funbrain provides a relatively safe learning and gaming environment.

Funbrain is an educational and interactive website that offers colorful flash games for the elementary school-aged child. Most of the games on the website require a first grade level, or higher, reading ability. Some of the games on the site are less colorful and less interactive but offer high quality educational material.

Teach Children Grammar

From Madlibs to Grammar Gorillas, Funbrain offers several games that help young children identify nouns, verbs and adjectives. Kids will be laughing so hard at their madlibs that they will not even notice they are learning the parts of a sentence. As an added benefit, children will also develop fine motor skill while they try to catch the adverbs, adjectives and nouns flying across the screen. Most games allow the player to set a level of difficulty.

Teach Children Math Skills

Funbrain also offers several math related games. Math arcade is a colorful flash game that allows a child to enter his or her sex and grade level, customizing the game for the child. Children will solve math equations with a bumble bee and some wind. The equations can be addition, subtraction or algebraic, depending on the child's ability. The site also offers baseball math and mathcar racing. These two games are in the classic funbrain area and are not as colorful or interactive as the flash games in the arcade section. Nonetheless, they are mildly entertaining games that offer a great way for a child practice a skill.

Free Online Games

The children will love to play at the playground. This area offers free flash games to children that offer light educational value. Younger children, who may not be ready to master the grammar and math games, can play in this area.

In addition to the playground, there are age appropriate and gender specific blogs available. For example, the boys, ages 6-10 blog, contains silly facts and figures about animals. Children can also visit web books which include popular characters like Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Website Safety/Violence

Funbrain is full of advertisments. These ads are colorful and attractive to children. Ads for other video games, cereal, fruit bars, and asthma medication are in the banners. However, the site is free of pop-ups and pop-under ads.

It is possible for a child to click on an advertisement but these ads open a new window so the child is not navigated away from funbrain.com. The games tested for this review did not contain violence or inappropriate materials.
