Rashti & Rashti issued recalled its kids' giraffe blanket. The kids' product was found to create a choke hazard due to a defect in the item's accessories.

On May 18, 2010, Rashti & Rashti recalled a children’s product. Testing confirmed that faulty materials on the giraffe blanket could create a choke hazard for children. To increase the number of individuals informed about the safety risk, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission also issued a report.

Children’s Giraffe Blanket Recalled by Rashti & Rashti

The kids’ product listed under the recall was the kids’ Giraffe Security Blanket. The blankets were sold exclusively at Target Stores across the United States. The children’s item was produced from January 2009 to August 2009. The blankets typically sold for about $9.00.

The blankets were pink with a giraffe head located in the center. The words, “I Love You” were sewn on the blanket. Listed on the tag was the style number of Y22230H. It was estimated that 44,000 units were sold during the production period.

When laid out flat, the blanket formed a square with a length of fourteen inches. A few small circles of fabric added color to the otherwise, entirely pink blanket. The outside boarders and the hands of the giraffe were covered with a silky, pink material.

Defects in Security Blankets Sold at Target

According to information released by Rashti & Rashti, there were no reports of injury or incident based on the use of the kids’ product. Additional testing confirmed that a choke hazard did exist from normal use of the blanket.

The giraffe head is the sole area of defect on the blanket. The small balls located on the top of the giraffe’s antenna can detach, creating a choke hazard for unattended children. The small balls can become lodged in a child’s throat and quickly restrict breathing.

Actions to Take Following Recall of Blanket for Children

The giraffe security blankets are unsafe for children and should be removed from use as soon as possible. Consumers should not try to correct the problem found on the blanket themselves. Individuals can discard the blankets or contact the company for refund information.

Consumers may contact Rashti & Rashti at (888) 594-3730 between the hours of 8:30am and 9:30pm, Monday through Friday to gain refund information. Individuals may also use the Rashti & Rashti website for more information about the recall or to browse more items from the company.
