Republican Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal campaigned with U.S. Senate hopeful Marco Rubio (R) in Tampa last week. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, it was former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s (R) turn to stump for Rubio. Giuliani endorsed Rubio last March and over the weekend the Republicans hit the South Florida campaign trail with the first stop in Sarasota followed by Venice, Fort Myers and ending in Palm Beach.

Hundreds of supporters cheered when Rubio’s Road to Reclaim America campaign bus pulled into the parking lot of Sarasota’s Bayfront Park promptly at 8:30 a.m.

"I'm here because this election is important to the nation,” Giuliani said and later added, "He came from nowhere to get this nomination because of the power of his ideas and the character of his personality."

Marco Rubio Promises to Restore Greatness of America

Rubio explained how he views the campaign race. He said it is, "…not just a competition between a Democrat, a Republican and an opportunist.” Laughter from the audience paused the U.S. Senate candidate. He continued, “This election is not a choice between conservation ideology, liberal ideology and lack thereof. This election is literally a referendum on our identity as a country and as a people.”

He explained, “Our identity is pretty straightforward. We are the single greatest nation in all of human history. There has never been a country like this in the history of all mankind.”

Marco Rubio focused on two points making America great, entrepreneurial spirit and the country’s position as the strongest in the world.

“The world is a safer and better place when America is the strongest country in the world,” Rubio said. He continued, “If we stay on the road Washington has us on, we will lose many of things that make making America exceptional.”

Marco Rubio Asks for the Vote

Rubio told the crowd if given the chance he would have voted against the stimulus package while his opponents thought it worked. He also said he will vote to repeal and replace Obama Care and added, “I’m the only one running who has a real plan to take on this national debt. It’s all great but means nothing if you don’t vote…We’re here to ask you to vote for me.”

“You’ve got it!” A supporter shouted.

Rubio emphasized the importance of voting and encouraging others to vote. He started in politics by making phone calls and realized it didn’t matter if people agreed with your party, it only mattered if they voted.

The U.S. Senate hopeful promised to run a respectful campaign and vowed to be held accountable once he reached Washington.

“We really don’t want to change, America, we just want to fix it. And we think that everything’s wrong with America can be fixed by everything that’s great about America,” the U.S. Senate candidate said, “We want to remain what we have been, the greatest nation in human history and more importantly we are willing to do what every generation of American before us was willing to do, whatever it takes to ensure that our children and our grandchildren inherit what they deserve. The single greatest society in all of human history.”

The bus pulled away just after 9 a.m. to a crowd shouting, "Marco! Marco!"

Rubio’s wife, Jeannette, stood by his side during his speech while Sarasota County Commissioners Nora Patterson (R) and Joe Barbetta (R) looked on. Ray Pilon (R), running for Florida House Dist. 69, also attended the event.

Marco Rubio is running for U.S. Senate in Florida in a three-way race against Kendrick Meek (D) and Charlie Crist (I). Early voting begins Monday, Oct. 18 in Florida with elections on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
