Football Pub Quiz Questions – Football Player Heights
This is a challenging category and one to catch out all the footballing know-it-alls. Here are some questions to get the football pub quiz rolling:
- Who are the tallest outfield football players currently playing professional football?
- Who are the shortest football players currently playing professional football?
- Who is the tallest outfield football player currently playing in the English Premier League?
The first two questions are tough, so one point should perhaps be given for any player named who appears in the top 10 list of shortest/tallest footballers. Goalkeepers are not included! If a quiz team actually names the tallest or shortest football player then at least 10 points should be awarded.
The third question is one to catch people out. The tallest outfield player in the Premier League is not Peter Crouch. Austrian striker Stefan Maierhofer signed for Wolves in 2009 and is fractionally taller than Crouch. If the pub quiz question master wants to be devious then perhaps points could be deducted for any team who give Peter Crouch as their answer.
Football Pub Quiz Questions – World Cup Golden Boot Award
World Cup knowledge is always a good test for pub quiz teams. World Cup Golden Boot award winners can be used to test footballing knowledge as far back as the first World Cup in 1930. Here are some ideas for questions:
- Name the Golden Boot award winners from the last five World Cups (one point for each correct answer).
- How many goals did Gary Lineker score to claim the Golden Boot at the Mexico 1986 World Cup?
- Who has scored the most goals in any single World Cup competition? (Bonus question! 10 points! The answer is Just Fontaine in 1958.)
The difficulty level for these Golden Boot questions can be altered by delving further back into World Cup history or sticking with the later (and more familiar) World Cup tournaments.

There are some spectacular and eccentric goalkeepers in World football, and they are perfect subjects for football pub quiz questions. Here are some brain-teasing quiz question ideas:
- Who are the top three goal scoring goalkeepers of all time? (One point for each: Rogério Ceni, José Luis Chilavert, René Higuita)
- Name the eccentric goalkeeper who invented the Scorpion Kick. Two bonus points are awarded if you can give his nationality and the national team he was playing against at the time. (René Higuita – Colombian – England)
Football Pub Quiz Picture Round Ideas
No pub quiz would be complete without a picture round. The pictures can be projected onto a wall or simply printed out from the internet and a copy given to each of the teams. Here are some ideas for a football pub quiz picture round:
- Name the footballer from his haircut. (Use photos revealing only the haircut of any given footballer! Ideas include the Carlos Valderrama afro, Freddie Ljungberg mohawk, Zidane bald spot etc)
- Which national team wears the following football shirts? (Use photos of the more obscure national teams to make this picture round harder)
