Jim Justice Bought the Greenbrier Resort in 2009

The Greenbrier, an award-winning resort located in White Sulphur Springs, WV, was purchased In May 2009, by the Justice Family Group, led by coal baron Jim Justice, a third generation West Virginian. He immediately set out to build the casino which will be housed in an underground entertainment complex. The 102,000 square foot facility was constructed in less than one year.

"Since purchasing The Greenbrier last year, I have made a commitment to our guests, employees, and every West Virginian that we would increase The Greenbrier’s world class appeal without losing our sense of history and tradition,” said Justice. “The grand opening of the Casino Club will be really spectacular and the tremendous interest among celebrities and long time guests validates my belief that The Greenbrier will continue to be an elite travel destination for a long time.”

The Greenbrier Resort Will Host a PGA TOUR Event in August

Soon after Justice bought the Greenbrier he embarked on his aggressive plans for the resort. In addition to adding the casino, Justice secured a professional golf tournament.

The PGA TOUR and The Greenbrier jointly announced in August that they had entered a six-year agreement, through 2015, for the historic resort to sponsor and host The Greenbrier Classic as part of the FedExCup, beginning the week of July 26 - August 1, 2010.

Plans for the tournament week include concerts by country music icon Reba and Rascal Flatts and superstars Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood. A new outdoor amphitheater is currently under construction at the State Fair of West Virginia and will be the setting for both tournament concerts.

In his first year at the helm of the legendary resort, Justice has secured a PGA Tour event, built a casino, and given new life to a West Virginia treasure.
