The Prohibition Era drama “Boardwalk Empire” led all programming with eight awards. The Depression Era miniseries “Mildred Pierce” received five awards. Game of Thrones received two awards. Boardwalk Empire, the Prohibition Era Drama, entered the Emmys with 19 nominations and garnered a total of eight wins. The big win for the series was for Outstanding Director, which went to Martin Scorsese.
Series star Steven Buscemi, who portrays Atlantic City treasurer Nucky Thompson, was nominated for the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Emmy, but the award in the category went to Kyle Chandler for Friday Night Lights. Kelly Macdonald, who portrays Nucky Thompson's mistress, was nominated for the Supporting Actress Emmy,.

Mildred Pierce
The Depression era miniseries Mildred Pierce won the awards for Outstanding Lead Actress for Kate Winslet and Outstanding Supporting Actor for Guy Pearce. The miniseries also won for outstanding casting, outstanding music composition and outstanding art direction. Evan Rachel Wood, who portrayed Mildred Pierce's (Kate Winslet) daughter, was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress. Game of Thrones
The sci-fi fantasy series Game of Thrones won two awards, including Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Peter Dinklage and outstanding main title design.
