Most bathroom cleaners are synonymous with toxicity. Use these natural, sweet smelling alternatives that really work instead!

The bathroom is, without a doubt, one of the toughest areas of the house to clean. There is the soap scum buildup, possible mildew, ring in the toilet, and overall grime to deal with. However, with a little knowledge of how to clean these areas with natural ingredients, and with the right tools, you can say goodbye to toxic cleaners forever!

Cleaning the Bathtub Naturally

The bathtub can be a challenge, especially when it has a mysterious ring and/or mineral deposits. A simple scrub brush of your choice coupled with a few ingredients will have your tub shinier and sweeter smelling than you have ever known it to be.

The secret begins with a simple grapefruit. You will need to cut the grapefruit in half and wipe it all over your bath and shower area. Gently squeeze the grapefruit while you do this to encourage grapefruit juice to cover the areas. Let the juice sit on the surfaces for 5 to 10 minutes.

Then fill the tub with a very small amount of very warm water. Wet your brush, sprinkle baking soda on it and on the bathtub surfaces. Now, scrub and watch all of the dirt and grime melt away! The citric acid in the grapefruit works extremely well in breaking up dirt, and the baking soda and brush help to scrub any remaining residue away. The fresh, sweet smell that the grapefruit will leave is very pleasant as well!

Cleaning the Toilet Naturally

To clean the toilet, use a simple homemade non toxic cleaner. Spray surfaces of the toilet thoroughly, and then wipe dry. Don't forget to toss the toilet seat cover and rugs in the washer, too.

To clean the inside of the toilet, sprinkle in some borax or baking soda. If the toilet is really dirty, let natural cleaner sit in the water for a 5 to 10 minutes. If it doesn't need the soaking, go ahead and scrub as usual with the toilet brush. One tip to cleaning stubborn spots in the toilet is to scrub them with a pumice stone. Just be sure to wear gloves if you have to do this!

To clean mirrors, the sink, counter, and other surfaces of the bathroom, use the same homemade cleaner you used to clean the surface of the toilet. Mop the floor with white vinegar and water, or spray floor with cleaner and wipe dry with paper towels. Once you have tried this way of cleaning your bathroom, you will see no reason to go back to toxic cleaners!
