A fun and easy fairy costume for babies that can easily be used for a party, Halloween, or her dress-up box.

Making a fairy costume for a baby is a fun and inexpensive project. It can be used for Halloween or just to be worn around the house during playtime or even for a fairy themed birthday party. With a little bit of effort, she will have a beautiful fairy costume that can be used for a long time.

Gather the Supplies for the Fairy Costume

  • a leotard or plain onesie
  • tights or leggings
  • glitter pens
  • spray glitter
  • fairy wings or supplies to make fairy wings
  • a wand
  • ballet shoes (optional)
  • a tutu (optional)

Many of these items can be found in a clothing store, department store, costume store, or ordered online.

Piecing Together The Fairy Costume for a Baby

Start with the leotard or onesie. This can be in any color. Add fun patterns such as swirls, vines, or flowers using the glitter pens and spray the fabric with the glitter spray for a sparkly fairy look. Also add a little bit of glitter to the tights if desired. Avoid adding rhinestones, beads, or sequins to the fairy costume. Babies love shiny objects and she might pry them off the costume and put them in her mouth creating a choking hazard.

Fairy wings are usually easy to find at costume and online stores, but they can be made. Take two wire hangers and connect them at the hooks with colored electric tape or duct tape. then cover the hangers with a tulle or other light weight fabric and spray them with a glitter paint or decorate them with the glitter pens. Attach them to the fairy costume using ribbons or by making arm bands out of an elastic material.

Some babies do not mind having a tutu as part of the costume, but others might not like it. Don't force her to wear it if she does not want to. The same goes for shoes. If she is not walking yet, shoes would be completely optional. When the weather is cold, opt for a pair of socks that look like ballet slippers if she does not like shoes.

Accessories for the Baby's Fairy Costume

Give the baby a wand either bought from a store or made by taking a thin stick and wrapping it in a gold or silver ribbon. If using a bought wand, make sure that it does not have any small pieces that could be a choking hazard. If the baby has enough hair, add a few glittery hair clips. If not, a head band will do.

Be careful of using make up or face paint on a baby. Babies have sensitive skin and some of the make up and Halloween face paints could cause a rash. It is best to let her natural beauty shine through.
