On Thursday, April 15th, 2010, Verizon Wireless, operator of the nation's most reliable 3G network, and HTC, one of the fastest growing companies in the mobile phone industry, announced that they will be releasing the Droid Incredible, a phone that is latest in the line of Droid phones that includes the Motorola Droid and the HTC Droid Eris. The Droid Incredible ($199.99 after $100 mail-in rebate) introduces some new features and brings back some old ones from other Droid and HTC phones to create a great user experience.
Under the Hood
Among the key features of the HTC Droid Incredible are ones that make the hardware of this phone truly powerful. Boasting a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon0143™, an 8 megapixel camera that includes a dual LED flash, a 3.7 inch touchscreen display, integrated GPS, and support for Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g), this phone provides plenty of power for gaming, social networking, and more.
These specifications show a major improvement over previous phones in the Droid line; it even one-ups the flagship phone, the Motorola Droid. The Incredible is powered by an even faster processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon0143, which will enhance the speed and power of the already-quick Android 2.1 operating system. The 8 megapixel camera is another step above the original Droid's 5 megapixel camera that was capable of DVD-quality video capture. Users will now have 3 million more pixels with which they can capture spectacular, camera-quality photos and videos.
Sleek Software
Running the Android 2.1 mobile operating system along with HTC Sense, the HTC Droid Incredible gives users a sleek and powerful mobile phone experience. HTC Sense is the user interface that was designed by HTC to run on top of the platforms that HTC develops on (i.e. Android 2.1) and provide a better graphical user interface for users to enjoy.
With the Android 2.1 mobile operating system, users of the HTC Droid Incredible have at their disposal thousands of apps that are available on the Android Marketplace. The selection of apps available is almost as numerous as that of the iTunes App Store from Apple, but is free of restrictive policies put in place by the host of the app exchange.
Many other features are available on the HTC Droid Incredible, including dedicated touch-sensitive Home, Back, Search, and Menu keys, a built in digital compass, proximity sensors, and light sensors, that all combine to form one great phone. Preorders for this device begin on Monday, April 19th, with in-store availability at Verizon Wireless beginning on April 29th, 2010.
