Jack Swagger defeated Randy Orton on April 25, 2010 at the WWE pay-per-view Extreme Rules in a no countouts, no disqualifications match to retain his World Heavyweight Championship. Jack Swagger had sought revenge against Randy Orton since Orton defeated him twice in non-title matches and embarrassed him. Swagger was World Heavyweight Champion and felt that he was the best wrestler in WWE, and would prove it by defeating Orton at Extreme Rules 2010.
Jack Swagger vs. Randy Orton at Extreme Rules
Jack Swagger was able to dominate the beginning of the match, using his well-known amateur wrestling skills to take down Orton. The use of foreign objects was allowed in this match and both wrestlers seemed eager to do so. Swagger tried to use his belt but Orton blocked him and pummeled the “All-American American”. Orton later nailed Swagger in the gut with the belt when Swagger tried to splash Orton from the second rope.
The match moved outside of the ring and trash cans got thrown into the mix. Orton hit Swagger in the head with the weapon multiple times. He then slammed the champion’s head against the announcers’ table and threw Swagger against the steel ring steps, then stomped on his head repeatedly.
Orton continued to dominate the match, punishing Swagger more and more until Swagger managed to make a comeback. He grabbed a chair and was going to use it against Orton but the Viper hit him with a DDT. Orton set up the chair in the middle of the ring and tried to nail the champion with the RKO onto the chair, but Swagger deflected the move.
Jack Swagger Defeats Randy Orton, Remains World Heavyweight Champion
Jack Swagger won the match and retained his championship by giving Orton a Gutwrench Powerbomb after he got out of Orton’s attempt to RKO him onto a steel chair. Randy Orton did not respond well to losing, however, as he then succeeded in giving Jack Swagger his patented RKO after the match.
Will Randy Orton be Drafted to Smackdown?
Randy Orton’s attack on Swagger after the match suggests that the two will continue to feud, especially if they are drafted onto the same show. It is rumored that Randy Orton will be drafted onto Smackdown for the 2010 WWE Draft, so if Swagger remains on Smackdown, the two will likely meet in the ring once more. Orton no doubt wants to get another chance at the World Heavyweight Championship.
