Juan Carlos Burgos - WBC #2 Ranked Featherweight
Boasting an impressive record of 25-0 with 18 KOs, featherweight powerhouse Juan Carlos Burgos is sitting comfortably as the WBC’s #2 ranked featherweight. Burgos controlled the fight between himself and Castillo, keeping his undefeated record intact and ensuring himself a shot at the WBC featherweight title.
The lead up to the fight saw Burgos and Castillo getting involved in some verbal sparring, as is the norm for high-profile boxing events. The final press conference on May 26, 2010 provided a few choice words from both Ricardo Castillo and Juan Carlos Burgos.
Burgos: “I love to participate in a real fight, where many of you wonder who will win. Castillo doesn’t have enough attributes to beat me. I am the younger of the two and I am very disciplined, those are some of my advantages.”
Castillo: “Burgos is very young. I have the experience to make him pay and we will see if I don’t have enough attributes once inside the ring.”

Boxing Still Relevant as Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Increases in Popularity
While the rising popularity of mixed martial arts (MMA) has seen many fans of the combat sports watching MMA events such as Strikeforce, Dream, and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), boxing has maintained a strong following of hard core fans. Furthermore, the increasing emphasis on stand-up fighting in mixed martial arts may be a benefit to boxing. A new generation of MMA fans, who were introduced to the world of combat sports through the UFC, are discovering a newfound appreciation for the clean precision and subtle technique employed by top-level boxers.
