After some media suggested a lack of a direct response to the allegations of a 20-year-old woman from California that he fathered her 3-month-old son might be a sign of a measure of truth to the story, Justin Bieber spoke out on Nov. 4, 2011. Bieber emphatically told his fans, and the world, that there is absolutely no truth to the story whatsoever.
The paternity suit from the woman, who will not be named due to the spurious nature of her claims, demands that Bieber submit to a DNA test, claiming he is the only one she had sexual relations with during the time before her pregnancy. She alleges that she and Bieber had sex backstage after an October of 2010 concert at the Staples Center in L.A..
Justin Bieber: "Never Met the Woman"
Ridiculous, is basically what Bieber replied. He's never even met her and he did not flinch as he said so. “I’d just like to say that none of those allegations are true. (I've) never met the woman” Bieber told host Matt Lauer on the 'Today Show' in New York. “I know that I’m gonna be a target, but I’m never going to be a victim."
A spokeswoman for Bieber, Melissa Victor, said earlier in the week the charges were "sad", "malicious" and "demonstrably false" and that they would "vigorously" defend against them in whatever way they could. Another Bieber rep said that the charges also got facts wrong, that Bieber did not ever spend time alone backstage, something the pop singer himself confirmed on the Today Show.
“I just think it’s crazy, because every night after the show, I’ve gone right from the stage, right to my car," he told Lauer. “So it’s crazy that some people want to make up such false allegations. But to set the record straight, none of it is true.”
Bieber Promos 'Under the Mistletoe'
While the woman's legal team is on record as saying they will pursue the suit, there is now talk the L.A. police will investigate the woman on the basis of a potential statutory rape charge. Bieber was 16 at the time of this alleged incident, she 19; given the state's legal age of consent is 18, had she actually had sex with him she could be charged with having sex with a minor.
Bieber ostensibly appeared on the show to promote his new Christmas album, 'Under the Mistletoe' and the charities that will be supported through sales of the record and his new 'The Believe Charity Drive'. But the Canadian singer welcomed the chance to let fans know that he is not the person he is accused of being.
“thanks for letting me set the record straight," Bieber tweeted after the show. "what is real are my fans, this album and this charity work."
