There is an unofficial battle between superstars Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber as each manages new milestones in social media popularity. Lady Gaga crossed the most recent finish line first late on Sunday May 15, 2011, as the costumed one became the first human to get 10 million Twitter followers.
The creator of the meat dress is not in the lead by much, though. Gaga now has 10,047,933 Twitter followers -- she calls them her Little Monsters -- while Bieber in second has 9,656,519. That leaves the kid from Canada a mere 391,424 behind her and reports from Famecount, a social media site that tracks this sort of thing, say that the 17-year-old is closing on Gaga.

Famecount says that it "...generates statistics across Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, to help you track the trends and rank the stars." The site tracks anyone with high numbers, not just artists. U.S. President Barack Obama is in 3rd place when it comes to Twitter Followers -- he has over 8 million -- while Oprah Winfrey is in 11th and Ryan Seacrest is in 18th place.
Gaga, currently in Europe, notes and often celebrates this kind of thing, as witnessed by a Tweet she sent out on Monday. "10 Million Monsters!" she wrote. "I'm speechless, we did it! It's an illness how I love you. Leaving London smiling."
When it comes to tracking the followers Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber are adding monthly, Bieber is adding over 800,000 each calendar month, Gaga about 650,000. If that pace were to continue, then by the time summer is over, Bieber will take over the lead.
Facebook Fans and YouTube Stars on Famecount
The human with the most YouTube views is Bieber with over 1,600,000,000 -- yes that's one billion, six-hundred thousand. While Gaga is right behind at 1,450,000,000. She got to one billion first, in mid-November of 2010, but Bieber matched her later that month and pulled ahead in December.
The Facebook fan leader is neither Gaga nor Bieber, nor a person, but Texas Hold'em Poker with almost 43,000,000 fans. The human with the most Facebook fans is Eminem followed by Gaga, who has more than 34,000,000. Bieber has over 27,000,000 Facebook fans, behind others, such as the late Michael Jackson and Rihanna.
