On Wednesday October 13, 2010, NBC broadcast the fifth episode of the twelfth season of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which was followed by the debut of the third episode of the first season of the latest Law & Order television series, Law & Order: Los Angeles.

On Wednesday nights, it is possible for Law & Order fans to then follow the franchise to a third city. By changing the channel to BBC America, viewers can see repeats of recent episodes of Law & Order: UK. New episodes of this series are currently airing on BBC America on Friday nights.

Plot of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 12, Episode 5, “Wet”

The New York City detectives of the SVU are contending with a change of office location and a somewhat obnoxious new ADA, Mikka Von (Paula Patton), as they investigate the suspicious death of a controversial and highly successful PR business woman.

Reviewing Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 12, Episode 5, “Wet”

Although Law & Order: SVU remains a strong series, this episode was not its best.

The story changed course of motivation somewhat ineffectively, and plot’s culmination did not as superiorly achieve the impact of most Law & Order storyline revelations.

Hopefully, the character of Mikka Von, played by Paula Patton, will never be seen again on the series. Patton failed to impress in this performance, even garbling the delivery of some lines, and the character was dressed to look more like a model than a hardworking and serious lawyer.

Plot of Law & Order: Los AngelesSeason 1, Episode 3, “HarborCity

Los Angeles detectives, Rex Winters (Skeet Ulrich) and TJ Jaruszalski (Corey Stoll) investigate the murder of a professional surfer, which leads them to uncovering that a string of crimes are being committed by a wealthy group of privileged boys.

ADA Ricardo Morales (Alfred Molina) finds the case particularly chaffing him, and despite his deputy, Evelyn Price (Regina Hall), attempting to remind him to keep perspective, he cannot becoming personally involved in the case.

Reviewing Law & Order: Los AngelesSeason 1, Episode 3, “HarborCity

Law & Order: Los Angeles is noticeably improving since its first episode, which aired on September 29, 2010, but it still lacks punch.

Ulrich and Stoll continue to give enjoyable performances, and it is encouraging to see Hall’s performance contribute to making her character more dimensional. Unfortunately, the character played by Alfred Molina remains flat and uninteresting.

The storylines, which overall lack impact, start out with potential, but they seem to turn out like poorly recycled plots from other Law & Order series.

It is not as well written or produced as the original season of Law & Order, and it fails to retain viewer interest throughout each episode

Despite it showing some promise, it seems tired before it has woken up.

Law & Order: UK

It may seem jarring that this series of the Law & Order franchise is titled to focus on a country rather than a single city, but it is based in London, Indeed, in Ireland, it is called Law & Order: London.

Its first season aired in England in 2009, and repeats of these episodes are being aired on Wednesday nights on BBC America.

The series has had three seasons to date, and BBC America airs new episodes of the series on Friday evenings.

A Tale of Three Cities – Comparing Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order: Los Angeles, and Law & Order: UK

Set in New York City, Los Angles, and London, the locations of these series span about six thousand miles, and they are set in three of the most high profile cities of the world.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit does not follow the original format of the franchise since it more heavily focuses on the police investigation rather than the law court pursuit of the case, but it is set in the franchise’s city of origin, New York City.

In its twelfth season, Law & Order: SVU is a successful and superior series, but it does tend to get more involved in the personal lives of its main characters than did the original Law & Order.

Law & Order: Los Angelesis still in its infancy, and it is very much searching for its sea legs.

By contrast, although still young, Law & Order: UK can make for compelling viewing. Many of its episodes are openly based on earlier episodes of Law & Order, but the series switches into more of the sensibilities of London, while Law & Order switched into the nature of New York realities.
