CEC Entertainment issued a recalled on kids' rings and glasses. The kids' products were found to create a safety risk from easy to swallow parts.

On September 15, 2010, Chuck E. Cheese’s Entertainment, Inc. recalled some of its children’s products. Testing confirmed reports that safety risks could develop from normal play with the items. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, working with CEC Entertainment, issued a product warning in an attempt to notify consumers of the risk.

Star Glasses and Light Up Rings Recalled by CEC Entertainment

The kids’ products listed under the recall were the Chuck E. Cheese’s Light-Up Rings and Star Glasses. The children’s items were available in all Chuck E. Cheese restaurants across the United States and Canada. The rings were given away during promotions and at conventions while the glasses were available as party gifts in the restaurants.

The rings were designed in a variety of colors. The plastic jewelry was available in pink, yellow, blue, green, or purple. The actual ring section that wrapped around an individual’s finger was a black, stretchy material. The rings were created to resemble the Chuck E. Cheese mouse. The top surface of the ring was a little more than one inch across.

The glasses were only designed with a red tinted frame. Even though the glasses had a red color, it was still possible to see through the frames. The eye sections of the glasses were shaped like stars. The largest parts of the glasses were the hollow stars measuring about 3 inches tall. The frames were about 6 inches wide. The name of the company was printed on the ear section of the eyewear.

Defects in Jewelry and Eyewear From Children’s Theme Restaurant

From information released by CEC Entertainment, two incidents were received. Both incidents involved the rings. No incidents or cases of injury were received in association with the star glasses.

There are two separate risks associated with the light up rings. It is possible for small children to open the rings and ingest the battery located inside. The battery is also small enough for small children to place the item in their nostrils.

Actions to Take Following Recall of Products and Gifts from Chuck E. Cheeses

Even though the glasses are not associated with any incidents, both the glasses and rings are part of the current recall. Both items are unsafe and should be removed from children as soon as possible.

The rings and glasses can be returned to any Chuck E. Cheese restaurant for a refund or an exchange. Consumer may choose between $1.00 and four game tokens or a soccer cup and four tokens if returning a ring. Individuals have the choice of $4.99 or a Flashing Hand prize for returned star glasses.

Consumers may contact the company at (888) 778-7193 between the hours of 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday to gain refund information. Individuals may also visit the Chuck E. Cheese website for more information about the recall or to browse more items available from the company. The email address of guestrelations@cecentertainment.com is also a way to contact the company if needed.
