Problems continue to mount for actor Lindsey Lohan and she may have to stand trial for theft of a $2,500 necklace that went missing last week from a Venice, Calif. jewelry store not far from her home. On Feb. 3 2011 the DA's office said the decision to lay charges have not yet been made.
The missing necklace was taken to police by someone connected to Lohan, TMZ reports that it was her stylist, after it became known the police were set to enforce a search warrant of her home to find it. The police did not reveal how they had been directed to investigate Lohan but the Los Angeles Times reported that a source informed them that Lohan was captured in a store video wearing the necklace shortly before it went missing.
String of Issues for Embattled Lindsey Lohan
Lohan said she did not steal the necklace but only borrowed it. A TMZ story quotes the owner of the store denying it was borrowed. A conviction could be costly for Lohan as she is on probation for a 2007 drunk driving conviction and was just released from the Betty Ford clinic in early January. She spent three months there in a drug rehab program, the fifth time she's been to drug rehab.
When placed on probation in the drunk driving case she was told by the judge that he would send her to jail for six months were she to in any way break her probation. If she is tried and convicted for theft then it would seem a jail term in the drunk driving conviction might then be forthcoming.
She already violated her probation in Oct. of 2010 when she tested positive for drugs. The judge did not send her to jail but to the mandatory 3 month stint in the Betty Ford clinic. Compounding her problems is another potential charge stemming from an incident with an employee of the Ford clinic; she is being investigated for an alleged assault in that incident.
Lindsey Lohan: Talented Actor But Trouble Life
The 25-year-old has shown a good deal of acting talent and had a number of roles in television and film, recently starring in Machete with Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba and Steven Seagal. Her career has been marred however by her inability to stay out of trouble for any protracted period of time and she has become more known for her troubles than for acting.
Lohan is due in court on February 25 to find out if charges will be laid in the case of the missing necklace.
