Whipped body butters are fun to make and are great to pamper yourself and give also as gifts. This article shows how to make your own.

Making your own spa products is not difficult and can be an amazing hobby or even small business. These make wonderful gifts as well for friends and family to share with. Most likely they will be asking for more homemade whipped body butter that you’ve created.

Here is a list of items you will need:

  • Electric mixer
  • Large Pyrex bowl
  • Pan to go on the stove that is large enough to fit this Pyrex bowl into
  • Jars on containers you will want to put the finished body butter into
  • Actual ingredients

Ingredients to make 1 pound of body butter

  • 10 oz. Shea Butter
  • 6 oz. avocado oil, sweet almond oil or soy oil (you can also if you choose to combine them adding 2 ounces of each to equal 6 ounces)
  • 2 tsp. Corn Starch
  • 1/2 oz. fragrance oil (although you can go to a maximum of one ounce)

Your fragrance oil needs to be sure it’s skin safe, be sure to check the manufacturer’s directions to ensure this. Typically anything with cinnamon will tend to not be good on skin. You can also use essential oils if you choose a more natural approach and don’t forget about all the amazing scent combinations you can create yourself for your own one of a kind, signature scent.

Put your large pan of water of the stove and bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to a medium heat. Put your Pyrex glass bowl into the pan of hot water ensuring that the water itself doesn’t get into the glass bowl.

Add your shea butter and melt completely until it’s liquid. Add the other oils, cornstarch and fragrance or essentials oils and stir well. Remove from heat.

In another very large bowl that your Pyrex glass bowl will fit into, fill with ice water. You’ll be putting your shea butter into this ice water bath and again, making sure that the water itself doesn’t get into the butter bowl. Now put your Pyrex bowl into this one now, as it will help the butter to cool faster.

Get your electric mixer and begin whipping the body butter. If you find too much of the ice is melting, add more ice to keep the water cool. Keep mixing the butter until it solidifies and forms peaks, it should have about the same consistency as whipped cream when it is complete. Immediately spoon into your jars and they are ready for use.

Be sure when you purchase supplies that you get fresh product that is very good quality. If oils get too old, some can go rancid. Be sure to store them in a cool, dark room when not using.

These body butters are wonderful to slather on right after a bath or shower to help keep skin smooth and soft and to impart a wonderful fragrance.
