Glazed Orange Rolls - Tudokin
This is a yeast roll recipe for orange rolls with a glaze that will be the hit of that special brunch or dinner. Also try it as a cinnamon roll or savory cheesy roll.

These orange rolls will be the hit of your special breakfast, brunch or dinner. Less than 3 hours from start to finish. Homemade melt-in-your-mouth orange rolls make holiday meals memorable!

You may add or delete the orange glaze according to your sweet tooth and ingredients in the entire meal. If you are not going to use a glaze, paint the rolls with an egg wash of 1 beaten egg prior to baking to give them a glassy browned appearance. You might also simplify this recipe by replacing the homemade dough with a store-bought bread dough or ready-made doughs for rolls, rolling out dough to coat with the orange/sugar/butter/juice mixture.

Cinnamon Roll Alternative

For a different spin on things you can exchange the orange peel and juice filling mixture for 2 Tablespoons of cinnamon, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup of chopped nuts and/or 1/2 cup of raisins (optional). For the glaze, increase the vanilla to 1 teaspoon and delete the orange juice.

Cheesy Savory Roll Alternative

For a savory roll, try a cheesy filling. Exchange the orange peel and juice filling mixture for 3/4 cup of grated sharp cheddar cheese and spread over rolled-out dough. Sprinkle over dough with 1/4 cup of cut chives or thinly sliced tops of green onions. Ignore glaze, but paint tops of rolls with an egg wash of 1 beaten egg prior to baking to produce a glossy browned finish to the rolls. These savory rolls are also ideal to go along with an egg dish for a special brunch.

Melt-in-Your-Mouth Orange Rolls Recipe

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 package quick-rising active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water (not too hot or it will kill the yeast)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2-1/2 to 2-3/4 cups flour
  • Soft butter or margarine

Filling

  • 3 Tablespoons butter
  • ½ cups sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons grated orange rind
  • 2 Tablespoons orange juice

Glaze

  • 4 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 pound powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 2 Tablespoons orange juice, or so

Directions

For Dough:

  1. Stir yeast and warm water in large bowl, adding sugar. Let stand until foamy, about 10 minutes.
  2. Stir vegetable oil, beaten egg, and salt into yeast mixture.
  3. Add flour 1/4 cup at a time, stirring until mixture is smooth
  4. Grease bowl with butter or margerine
  5. Add dough, turning to coat entire surface. Cover and let rise in warm draft-free area until doubled in volume, about 1-1/2 hours

For Filling:

  1. Melt butter and sugar. Stir in orange peel and orange juice.
  2. To assemble: Roll dough out on generously floured surface to thickness of 1/4 inch.
  3. Spread filling evenly over dough. Roll dough up into cylinder, as for jelly roll.
  4. Cut into 1-1/2 inch-thick slices. Set each slice in greased muffin tin.
  5. Cover with towel and let rise in warm draft-free area for 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 400. Bake rolls until lightly browned on top, about 13 minutes.

For Glaze:

  1. While rolls are still warm, heat glaze ingredients and pour over orange rolls in muffin tin.

Enjoy the rolls and the praise!
