Modern Family Tops Comedy Winners at 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards

Outstanding Comedy winner Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory and Mike & Molly won Emmys in the comedy series categories at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards.

ABC's comedy Modern Family was the big winner in the Comedy Series category at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards, held at Nokia L.A. Live on September 18, 2011. The Emmy Awards, hosted by GLEE star Jane Lynch, were televised live on FOX TV. Emmy winners in the main comedy categories included: Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory and Mike & Molly.

Modern Family

Modern Family was the big winner in the comedy categories, taking the top honor, Outstanding Comedy Series, for the second year in a row. Modern Family won the honor in a category that included nominees: 30 Rock, The Office, GLEE, Parks and Recreation and The Big Bang Theory.

Actor Ty Burrell won the Outstanding Supporting Actor award, while the actress who portrays his wife, Julie Bowen, won for Outstanding Supporting Actress. Executive producers Steven Levitan and Jeffrey Richman took the Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series prize for the episode titled 'Caught in the Act.' Director MIchael Alan Spiller took the for directing the series.

ABC is premiering the third season of Modern Family with an episode titled 'Dude Ranch,' on Wednesday, September 21, 2011. The cast of Modern Family includes Ed O'Neill, Sof'a Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Sarah Hyland, Nola Gould, Ariel Winter, Rico Rodriguez and Aubrey Anderson-Emmons.

The Big Bang Theory

Jim Parson of The Big Bang Theory won the award for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series. Parsons took the honor in category that included nominees: Alec Baldwin (30 Rock), Louis C.K. (Louis), Steve Carrell (The Office), Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory) and Matt LeBlanc (Episodes).

The presentation was one of the memorable sequences of the Emmys, because former Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen presented the honor. Sheen took time to make conciliatory amend to the people involved with the show. The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men are both produced by Chuck Lorre.

CBS premieres with fifth season of The Big Bang Theory on Thursday, September 22, 2011. The cast of the series includes Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Mayim Bialik, Kunat Nayyar, Simon Helberg and Melissa Rauch.

Mike & Molly

Mike & Molly star Melissa McCarthy won the Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series, in one of the highlights of the show. The nominees, including Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), Tina Fey (30 Rock), Laura Linney (The Big C), Marthy Plimpton (Raising Hope) and Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation) lined up on the stage like beauty pageant contestants. Melissa McCarthy was proclaimed the winner and was crowned with a sparking tiara by presenter Rob Lowe.

CBS is premiering the second season of Mike & Molly on Monday, September, 26, 2011.
