Coloring pages, activity sheets, and print out craft instructions make quick, easy, and fun gifts for moms.

Coloring pages and printable activity sheets and crafts are an easy way to help kids celebrate their mothers on Mother's Day. Kids can use printed clip art and images to color and present directly to their mothers or they can cut out and use the images for handmade cards and collages.

Here are some of my favorite printable resources for Mother's Day.

History of Mother's Day

Countries around the world also celebrate Mother's Day; some in May, others near the Spring vernal equinox in late March. Prior to the establishment of the modern official Mother's Day holiday,

  • Christians in Europe celebrated Mothering Sunday to honor mothers and motherhood.
  • Ancient Greeks and Romans celebrated Hilaria, a festival for Cybele, a mother goddess.
  • Ancient Romans celebrated Matronalia, a festival for Juno, the goddess of childbirth.

After a campaign by Anna Marie Jarvis, on May 8, 1914, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson signed a congressional resolution designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day. Anna Jarvis had already created the Mother's Day International Association and trademarked the phrases, "second Sunday in May" and "Mother's Day".

On Mother's Day, in May or March, children in countries around the world take time to honor and celebrate their mothers through gifts of crafts, cards, or other special activities. Printable coloring pages, activity sheets, and Mother's Day cards make this task quick, easy, and fun for children of all ages. Father's Day is around the corner.
