If you wanna argue about who the most popular music celebrity is go right ahead and argue. But if you wanna know who the most popular celebrity is, backed up by well-tabulated data, then you might consider spending a little research time on a new social media site called 'Groovecount.'
'Groovecount' launched on Jan. 20 2011 and the site says it tracks stats across "...Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Last.fm and Spotify to identify the trends and rank the stars." In essence it does an aggregated measuring of social media sites and music services and to determine which artists are getting the most attention.
"We are a new service launched by Famecount the social media statistics aggregator." Groovecount's homepage says. "We aim to provide a comprehensive perspective on popularity and digital reach in the music world, aggregating data from five social networks and digital services."
