The celebrity baby boom continues with a surprising twist. Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman welcome their second daughter together, born via surrogate.

Hollywood has been hit with what seems like one of the biggest baby booms in recent years. Celebrities like Kate Hudson, Luke Wilson, Natalie Portman, Tia Mowry, Jennifer Connely, Victoria Beckham, Marion Cotillard and more have all recently announced that they are expecting or have just had a baby. As of January 17, 2011 we can add Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban to that list. They have announced the birth of their second daughter together, Faith Margaret Urban.

Public Statements

Their publicist announced the birth of Faith Margaret Urban in a statement that reads, "Keith Urban, Nicole Kidman and their two-year old daughter Sunday Rose, today announced a new addition to their family, Faith Margaret Kidman Urban. Born through a gestational carrier at Nashville's Centennial Womens Hospital on December 28, 2010, Faith Margaret is Urban and Kidman's biological daughter.

"Our family is truly blessed, and just so thankful, to have been given the gift of baby Faith Margaret," said the parents. "No words can adequately convey the incredible gratitude that we feel for everyone who was so supportive throughout this process, in particular our gestational carrier.' "

Kidman and Urban also showed that their mind was on parenthood as they discussed Nicole's role in her latest move, RabbitHole, at the Golden Globes. Nicole says she was "drawn" to the emotional role of a mother who lost her only son in a car accident. "The minute I read it, I thought I could play it," she added. Keith chimed in saying, "It's important for Nic to tell certain stories."

What is a Surrogate?

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are not the only celebrities to have used a gestational carrier to conceive a child. Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, Dennis Quaid and his wife and Angela Basset and Husband, Courtney B. Vance have also had children via surrogate.

This type of surrogate pregnancy involves the in virtro fertilization of a woman, called the "host mother", with the fertilized egg of another woman. The surrogate mother will then carry the baby to term and return it to the parents. Surrogate mothers are paid anywhere between $25,000 to $60,000 to carry the baby. Many people choose this route over natural pregnancy due to age, fertility problems or medical issues. Kidman and Urban have not commented on their reason for using a surrogate.

Congratulations go out to the Kidman-Urban family! Who will be the next celebrity to be hit by the Hollywood baby boom?
