Salaries for oil industry jobs that don't require a degree average around $60,000 per year, according to a June 18, 2010 article by MSNBC. That's just an average, with the top 10 percent earning $98,000 per year or more. Oil jobs related to the gulf cleanup range from starting salaries of $12.50 per hour (with time and a half for overtime) on up through $32 per hour and more.

With unemployment hovering around 10 percent in the United States, oil jobs are tempting for skilled laborers who are in good physical health. Professionals with degrees and certifications can also find openings for these oil recovery positions.

  • Laborer
  • Level III foreman
  • Experienced dozer operator
  • Marine specialists
  • Communications specialists

Louisiana Workforce Commission: The state of Louisiana has oil recovery jobs on its website, with job titles such as:

  • Risk Engineer/Hazmat tech
  • Oil spill security guard
  • Class A CDL driver with X endorsement

Mississippi Department of Employment Security: The state of Mississippi has gulf oil spill jobs as well, including position titles such as:

  • Site supervisor
  • Site safety representative
  • Lead safety representative
