'Pants on the ground' could be the four words that American Idol fans take away from the second episode. Pants on the Ground was an original song performed by one of the contestants to end the season episode of the ninth season, and it brought a lot of humor to the audition show in Atlanta, Georgia. It also capped off an interesting day that saw 25 more contestants given the golden tickets to head off to Hollywood Week.
American Idol Episode Two Recap (Season Nine)
The second audition episode for American Idol this season began in Atlanta, Georgia. Joining the normal American Idol judges was Mary J. Blidge to help with the auditions, and with it she brought her great knowledge of music. At first she seemed like a great choice, and she may have a lot to offer up-and-coming singers, but there were a number of times where she just couldn’t keep from laughing at some of the singers auditioning. She may have saved one or two singers from getting the “no” vote in the episode as well.
Jermaine Sellers and Vanessa Wolfe Audition for American Idol
Two early episode feel-good stories were portrayed for singers Jermaine Sellers and Vanessa Wolfe, and they could both end up being endearing characters during Hollywood week after getting sent forward. Sellers is a church singer from Illinois who take care of his sick mother, and performed brilliantly. He could now become a dark horse in the competition. Wolfe on the other hand had a real country feel to her, and her authentic look ended up getting her sent through. A quick segment about her showed that she wanted nothing more than to escape small-town life. The show will probably continue to follow them at the next stage.
Holly Harden and Mallorie Hailey Perform Brilliantly for American Idol Judges
Later on during the American idol episode, Holly Harden came out and performed a Loretta Lynn song. She was really good, but it didn’t seem like she would be when it showed what she was wearing. Holly had decided to come dressed as a guitar, wearing the outfit she said she had worn at Halloween. She seemed sweet, and could be an interesting candidate as the show goes on. For Mallorie Hailey, she hailed from South Dakota, and also did extremely well, even getting Simon Cowell on board to support her. She is a name to remember later on in the season.
The Great Skii Bo Ski Performs on American Idol
Towards the end of the show, a guy calling himself Skii Bo Ski came out to perform, and presented himself in a shirt that had his name on it. The only problem was that his name was spelled wrong, and the judges caught on to that right away. He sang “I Heard it Through the Grapevine” by Marvin Gaye and didn’t do too bad, and the judges (other than Simon) saw some talent there. He may not survive Hollywood Week, but he got any chance out of it.
General Larry Platt Performs ‘Pants on the Ground’
To end the show American Idol producers saved the most interested auditioner for the judges. General Larry Platt took the stage, and the screen denoted that he was 62-years-old. The judges allowed him to perform, and he broke out with an original song that he called ‘Pants on the Ground.’ The song caused Simon Cowell to cringe at the thought that the song could become a hit, and it could actually get a lot of re-play on YouTube later in the week. The song was catchy, and Pants on the Ground could just make General Larry Platt a very memorable moment from these American Idol auditions.
