Just starting out in MAG? Check with any friends on your PSN friend list to see what faction they have joined. Working together is a key element of the game play in MAG. Once a faction is chosen a player can not switch factions until reaching level 60. S.E.V.R. is a good suggestion for a first faction because they have an advantage in the domination game modes.
Which Game Modes to Play
Choosing the directives game mode will give a 10% increase in XP which accumulates to a large amount over time.
The suppression and sabotage game modes are the best for inexperienced players, they require less focus on objectives and players have the opportunity to fine tune their weapon and medic classes.
The acquisition and domination game modes are much more complex than most other first person shooter multiplayer game modes. Destroying fortified positions is important before attacking primary objectives. The best strategy for attacking in these modes is to focus on the bunkers before securing burn off towers or vehicles.
Strategy for Destroying Bunkers
The best strategy for destroying a bunker is to attack the turret first. Communicating is necessary. Position two or three players at different angles, surrounding the bunker. Fire volleys of RPG or grenades at the turret. LMG fire can finish off a turret that has taken a few RPG rounds. Never attack a bunker alone wait for teammates to help to secure the bunker.
Once a charge has been set it is best to find cover in a place with a good view of teammate’s charges. Be ready to take down a whole squad as they try to defuse a charge. Tell your teammate he is welcome for the points.
Weapon and Equipment Unlocks Suggested Order
To guarantee a steady rise in experience points try unlocking all medic classes except for advanced healing with your first points. The field support class is best for players learning how to play, while still giving out a lot of points. The second tier LMG is not worth it for any of the three factions. With the assault and sniper rifles the second tier gun is much more practical than the third while still packing more power than the default rifles. Advanced repair is a good early investment because a large portion of medals are unlocked by repairing buildings.
Fun Tip for Domination
If a platoon is holding their own quite well while defending the pumps head to the motor pools. Repair motor pools and have a good time doing laps around the map. Running over paratroopers as they land can be a good way to rack up kills and ribbons. An explosive sensor is good to avoid vehicle mines in this situation.
Clans and Teamwork
Having a good team can make MAG a lot more fun. Start a clan and invite the best players from each game you play. Make sure to pay attention to the player specialty icons. A squad with five players who prefer to snipe might not have a chance when attacking.
