The country band Rascal Flatts announced on March 3 2011 that their upcoming TV special 'Nothing Like This Presented by JC Penney' will include appearances by Natasha Bedingfield and teen pop sensation Justin Bieber.
The special will air on March 12 at 8:00 PM ET on ABC and runs for one hour. It will not be the first time that either Bedingfield or Bieber has performed with Rascal Flatts. Bedingfield, who released her third album, 'Strip Me', last year, appeared on the Nashville band's latest release 'Nothing Like This' and has sung with them in concert.
Rascall Flatts' Gary LeVox Cuts Bieber Hair
Bieber, meanwhile, recorded with Rascal Flatts for his 'Never Say Never - the Remixes' CD as they played That Should Be Me with the 17-year-old Canadian star. The footage for the TV special is recorded and Bieber, currently back touring and in the U.K., will not appear on the show live.
The show will feature Bieber and Rascal Flatts making a video for the Bieber song and will include 'behind-the-scenes' footage. During the making of the video Rascal Flatt singer Gary LeVox cut a lock of Bieber's hair. That lock of hair was auctioned off on eBay and reportedly made $40,000 for The Gentle Barn, an animal rescue foundation.
Justin Bieber and Rascall Flatts Make Music
Bieber and his manager Scooter Braun first approached Rascal Flatts late last year to see if they had an interest in recording with the teenager. LeVox and the two other members, Joe Don Rooney on guitar and Jay DeMarcus on bass and piano, were happy to oblige.
LeVox say that one of the reasons he's happy to be working on something with Bieber is that his own daughters, Brooklyn, 6, and Brittany, 10, both have Bieber fever and he has often played Bieber songs for them. Brittany, he says, is so pleased he's working with Bieber that she's been telling people what Daddy is up to. "Brittany says, 'My dad's doing a duet with Justin Bieber, and I DO have Bieber fever!'"
Natasha Bedingfield Plays Live with Rascall Flatts
The TV special will include footage of the band playing with Bedingfield live on stage in a Rascal Flatts concert last January in St. Paul, Minnesota, the online country music site The Boot reports. Bedingfield has been increasing her profile in music and her collaboration with Rascal Flatts, who have put out 7 albums in a 10-year span, has helped her do so.
Bieber and Bedingfield do not play together on the show.
