There are now thousands of jobs using Red technology in television and cinema through swift industry adoption of Red digital camera and post-production techniques. Following the announcement of high profile producer/director Sir Peter Jackson that he has placed an order for thirty Red Epic camera kits for 3D filming of The Hobbit, this system looks set to lead Hollywood mainstream firmly into the digital age.
There are many tutorials in Red digital systems on offer, but the originators of this technology run few hands-on courses themselves. 'Shooting with Red Technology' is a one day 3D workshop on Sunday 12 December 2010, featuring the fundamentals of sterescopic filming, avoiding bad 3D, essentials of 3D pre-production, production and post-production, with detailed demonstrations.
It follows on from the last five-day REDucation workshop of the year, which starts on Tuesday 7 December 2010, and runs until 11 December 2010, at Red Studios in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
Workshop at Red Studios Hollywood
The goal of the workshop is fully immersive, hands on, practical training and teaching of the Red One camera system for both on-set and post-production practice. Following the decision to put the Epic into production in the New Year, Red have tacked on the specialist 3D one-day boot camp. Well-qualified and experienced practitioners and technicians will teach and assist students on the courses.
On Community Day, members of the public can come in and see the new products, mingle with industry professionals, and learn about best practice with these in-house created gadgets and related software. Community Day is Thursday 9 December 2010 from 5 to 8 pm and is open to the general public at a cost of $20 in advance or $30 at the door.
Tech and Post Production Tuition
Tech classes are aimed at various roles, from camera assistants and data-flow wrangler roles to DPs. As well as presentations on the coming new technologies from Red, there will be small-group sessions with cameras and a faculty of experienced technicians will teach the technology and best practices for on-set data workflows.
Post classes will be taught in the real world environments through all the stages of prepping files for post, editing, color grading and finishing, in a hands-on "learn with the tools" approach. Editing and finishing tools and techniques for Red post from TV commercials through New Media, up to theatrical motion picture will be covered.
With digital cameras and post-production now becoming central to high quality mainstream film production, professional industry workers and film school students need to follow through on specialist training opportunities like this.
