The DxO Mark website offers photographers test results to assist with the purchase and how to get the best out of their existing DLSRs and lenses.

Photographers go to the DxO Mark revamped website to compare the performance of a range of mainly DSLR camera’s. Making it more useful, DxO Mark includes performance data for an increasing number of lenses, measured on a variety of dSLR cameras.

The main feature of the DxO Mark is the ability to review the test results of up to three items at once, either lenses or camera sensors.

“With these significant new features and improvements, we further emphasize our dedication to making DxOMark 2011 the most reliable and up-to-date source of RAW-based image quality data for digital cameras and lenses,” said Nicolas Touchard, vice president of marketing, image quality evaluation for DxO Labs. “This includes more stringent use case testing for reporting performance, easier ways to visualize consistency of zoom lens performance, and accelerated testing of cameras and lenses to keep pace with the many new models reaching the marketplace.”

About DXO

DxO’s main business is developing measuring systems for camera manufacturers. DxO Analyzer includes everything to reliably measure and analyze the performance of any type of image capture device. They also produce a high performance RAW image editor. Naturally, this means DXO labs has an extensive database of camera and lens testing results and they started sharing these with the initial version of the DxO Mark site.

As the DxO Mark site evolved the DxO team took into account feedback from site visitors as they prepared the first full release of the DXO Mark website. Their initial attention was on the image performance of digital camera sensors by analyzing the RAW image data, but they have expanded their test results to include an increasing number of DSLR lenses.

Compare Lenses and Cameras

In the graphics below there is an overview of results of a three way comparison between a Canon, Sigma, and Tamron lens. DXO Mark presents these results in a summary form but the next graphic shows the detail available with a field map comparison of Chromic Aberration for the three lenses.

Find Best Settings for Your Current Lenses

The detailed DXO Mark results help photographers find the sweet spot or best operating range for aperture, focal length and ISO of their existing lenses and cameras.

Lenses results are not only shown in table summaries, but also graphs of aperture versus focal length and quality for Distortion and Chromic Aberration. Lens Performance varies with these different lens settings. DXO Mark results are shown in a small graph , but if you click on it a larger version pops up, making it easier to read in detail.

Photographers choose test results from a range of focal length and aperture settings to see how these change the optical performance of their lens. This help them easily find the best setting for their equipment.
