Sarah Palin's Alaska debuted the first of eight episodes on TLC cable television on November 14, 2010. The scene tour of the nation's last frontier was like a love letter to the wilderness state by the controversial former governor and vice-presidential candidate for the Republican party.
The first episode of Sarah Palin's Alaska, Mama Grizzly, opened with the theme song Follow Me There from mulit-platinum rock band Third Day (Sony Music Provident Label Group), stunning scenes of Alaska and the Palin family.
Sarah Palin introduced herself, saying viewers might know her from the political arena or from her book; but she wanted people know that she was also the mother of five. The eight part docu-series will feature Sarah Palin, along with family members, as she shares the beauty and adventure of the final frontier.
The Palin Family Wilderness Adventures
The Palins shared their experiences as they went salmon fishing in Bristol Bay, hiking along the glaciers and rock climbing on the rugged mountains. The show featured stunning scenes of the Alaskan wilderness.
While salmon fishing, the Palins encountered a wild grizzly bear. The kids wanted to get closer to the bear, but Todd Palin used the opportunity to instruct them respect for the wilderness, saying the should not get too close because they wanted to preserve the fishing area for the bears. The mama bear had two cubs and the human kids playfully started growling at the bear cubs, but Sarah told them not to scare the cubs.
The Mama Grizzly segment demonstrated the beauty of the wilderness and respect for wildlife. The show included amazing footage of two adult grizzly bears fighting in the river. The Palins were in a nearby boat and prepared to get out of the bear's vicinity, if the bear became threatening. In fact, the Palins did pull up anchor and left the bears to roam in the wilderness.
Sarah Palin Talks about Writer Neighbor
Sarah Palin talked about the writer who has rented the house next door while writing a book about the former governor. Author Joe McGinnis has rented the house next to the Palins in Wasilla, Alaska. The Palins responded by building a fence to block his view. Detractors have criticized Palin for her response to the author, but she wondered how her critics would feel if they know that a person moved next door to with the intent of publishing a book about them.
