What are psychic attacks? Who and what causes them? Are there psychological and paranormal cause? How can people protect and defend themselves from these?

Psychic attacks are uninvited and unwelcome ones that drain people’s energy and can be made by psychic vampires who meet the criteria for some personality disorders in the DSM-IV TR, the handbook mental health professionals use to diagnose psychiatric disorders for billing purposes.

It's believed that these attacks can be launched by people who practice black magick. It's said that they can happen as a result of contact, from a distance or in dreams. Psychic attacks can influence the target’s mind, causing the victim to hear, see and feel things. Severe ones could affect targets’ physical health.

Signs of Psychic Vampire Attacks

When people suddenly feel energetically, emotionally or mentally drained and fatigued, some believe that this can be the result of an attack from a psychic vampire. Symptoms can include depression, anxiety, feeling worthless and/or persecuted, increased wariness, short-term memory loss, loss of focus and/or negative thoughts.

Targets may also feel sudden discomfort when going outside of the home or being in a place for the first time. There might be repeated bouts with physical illnesses, such as colds.

DSM-IV TR Psychological Profiles of Psychic Vamps

People with personality disorders (PDs) are said to be among the most common energy drainers. Individuals who have Antisocial Personality Disorder or APD (formerly called sociopaths and psychopaths) are known for their lack of conscience. They don’t conform to social norms and continually exploit others. Individuals with APD are deceitful, they lie repeatedly and they frequently exploit others for their own profit or pleasure. They’re impulsive, fail to plan ahead, disregard safety, irresponsible, show no remorse and can be irritable and aggressive, although they’re often charming and fun. One who has this PD meets three or more criteria.

Other personality disorders that have been associated with psychic vampirism include Borderline Personality Disorder, Histrionic Personality Disorder, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Dependent Personality Disorder and Sadistic Personality Disorders. BPD patients are known for their instability, while individuals with HPD have an intense need to be the center of attention. Individuals with NPD are known for their ideas of grandiosity and entitlement, while individuals with DPD have an intense need to be cared for by others. People with Sadistic Personality Disorder are known for their cruelty toward others.

Causes of Psychic Attacks

Attacks can be intentional or subconscious. In some cases, the psychic vampire may not realize that they’re draining others. Causes can include:

  • Continual disparaging, negative remarks made by others
  • Obsession
  • Some places may have negative energy that can be subconsciously transmitted
  • Curses and black magick invocations intended to bring harm to someone by using the natural forces of the universe or lower spirits. Sometimes, dolls, clothing or other objects are used to create the spell.

Psychological Psychic Attack Self-Defense

People with PDs can be self-centered control freaks who dictate to others and have limited emotions. They often provide no emotional support to others. They may put others down for ego-related gratification, or they may tell targets what they think or feel while ignoring reality, imposing guilt trips and holding pity parties to gain control.

If it’s not possible to end the relationship, people should set borders and limits, while remaining calm, assertive and firm. Body language, such as breaking eye contact, helps one to establish limits. If the individual gets angry or out of control, it can be helpful to simply end the conversation and offer to continue the discussion once the other individual is calmer.

Magickal Psychic Attack Defenses

Some believe that there are magickal defenses that can be utilized against psychological attacks, thereby helping one to enhance personal power, self-esteem and confidence. The individual can cleanse a space to prevent negative energy from entering homes by burning purifying herbs, such as frankincense, myrrh, cinnamon, sage, cedar, lavender and sweetgrass. Sprinkle earth or sea salt to absorb harmful energy in the corners of all rooms.

Magickal symbols of protection can be worn or hung as decorations. Pentacles (five pointed stars), pentagrams (a star within a circle), crosses, crucifixes, Star of David and Eye of Horus are considered to be strong protection symbols. They are often worn as jewelry. Clear quartz and other protective crystals can be worn or used as decorations.

People often visualize brilliant white horizontal and vertical circles or a bubble around their body and repeatedly state that what is negative cannot enter, around the room, ending with around the entire dwelling. Some will look at the negative person or a photo, while visualizing a bright blue pentacle on the forehead and concentrating on the positive forces of the universe, which can banish his or her negativity. Many find it effective to repeat the same words while polishing copper, gold or silver items while visualizing the person’s face. This is done to return unwanted energy back to its source, not in retaliation. Prayer is effective for others.

Psychic Attacks and Mental Health

Practitioners of magick have long recognized psychic vampires exist. Homeopathic professionals, including doctors, started employing non-traditional cures. Parapsychologists study extraordinary human experiences. An excellent example involves the similarities between Old Hag Syndrome and Sleep Paralysis. Most of their symptoms are identical. They have paranormal, psychiatric and physical theories that have evidence to support them.

Melissa Roberts :
Fascinating article! I did not know the connection between psychic vampies and the DSM. I have also found that, for Christians suffering from psychic vampire attacks- prayer, crosses, and holy water work well on the protection end and to cleanse physical areas.

Great article, Jill. I second Melissa's comment about prayer, and Holy Water having a positive effect against psychic vampires and DSM. Scapulars and other sacramentals are helpful as well.

For crystals, smokey quartz, black tourmaline, pyrite, black obsidian and black kyanite are especially effective.

The Native American tradition of smudging is another technique for cleansing an area that has been "contaminated".
