A self-employment telesummit aimed at "accidental entrepreneurs" seeks to school professionals on different aspects to improve their money-making abilities.

Registration is open for self-employment telesummit being held on October 17 through October 21, 2011. The event will feature 19 business experts offering advice on topics that include marketing, billing clients and other aspects of self-employment. Registration is free and open to all self-employed professionals around the world, but in the main it’s directed at “accidental entrepreneurs,” those who find themselves going it alone even when they didn't exactly plan it.

Rebuilding the Economy

Molly Gordon, the creator of the telesummit, explained that the event will help small businesses “create their own economic recoveries” in a recent press release. Experts at the telesummit include Bill Baren, Michael Neill, Charlie Gilkey and more than one dozen others. Gordon says that many entrepreneurs are very knowledgeable in their ideas and in many aspects of their chosen field, but being educated on all aspects of business will help them take their careers to the next level of success.

Gilkey, one of the experts being featured at the event, says that many entrepreneurs are under-earning for, and undervaluing their services. “If we self-employed people don’t learn to understand and accept the value we’re providing to others, we’ll never have a gauge to determine what we should be charging,” he explained.

Many financial experts have argued that small businesses are an integral, and often overlooked, piece of the overall economy. In the midst of recession, when new jobs are the buzzwords, entrepreneurs and self-employed professionals are being largely ignored by politicians. The one piece of legislation aimed at helping the self-employed, Health Care Reform, is under constant attack by opposing political parties. By taking charge of their own areas of business, self-employed professionals can learn how to take care of their own problems (because help from other sources may not be forthcoming).

Attending the Telesummit

Upon signing up for the self-employment telesummit through the official website, professionals may attend various workshops. The workshops include instruction on using video, creating memorable advertising copy, learning what to charge for professional services, finding ways to gain new clients, writing an attention-getting bio and even tips on how to stand out from the competition. The self-employed telesummit has been held annually since 2009. The only investment professionals must spend is time, which (as the workshop will explain) is a pretty valuable commodity.

But meeting with other self-employed professionals can be invaluable to entrepreneurs. One of the drawbacks of working alone is having no point of reference; there is no basis for comparison for professionals who go it completely on their own. Simply speaking with others and sharing ideas can open up a lot of doors and inspire a lot of new decisions which can be of great help to self-employed professionals. Events like the telesummit help to bring these professionals together in a very useful way.
